Utah!

Aravis, your babies are very cute! I'm happy you guys were able to get some

Sigh.........so, I think all three of the turkeys are girls. You watch, the one that I was dead certain was a hen will turn out to be a tom. Male turkeys are supposed to get blue in their face when they flush, and not just red, right? These two white turkeys only ever get red in their face. And the tom's (?) snood is still very small for what I thought it would be by now. Pawtrait, Birdguy, can you tell the gender on your turkeys more easily by 12 weeks of age? Arg, I need my computer so I can put up pictures!

By the way, there's a good chance I should be headed up to the Logan area some time in the near future, so if anyone needs any chicken train stops, let me know. I'll be stopping in Hyrum for a moment to see Sasha.

Hey Red, I think that bator still needs to get to Sasha! Aravis still has it..I think?

Yep, it's in the plans already

Congrats, madchicken! That is so exciting!!

Well, I'm having fun tonight. It's been raining for a little while, and I was worried about some of my birds sitting out in the rain all night and getting too cold or sick. Went outside to gather them up, and sure enough, some of them were just soaked. Don't worry, they made sure to air dry themselves when I was picking them up
D.gif
Now everyone is caged and under some shelter, so I can sleep without worrying about them all night. They just won't be happy with me tomorrow

The turkeys seemed really confused about why they were being taken off of their nice perches and thrown into the chicken run. And some of the chickens had holed up in the center of one of our big bushes. Too bad for them I'm not scared of getting twigs and leaves in my hair! I'm going to do one more sweep and make sure I didn't miss anyone, since my BO likes to sneak out.

Aravis, I love Martha too, very very cute! She has the sweetest little face!

Sphinx, Nice egg! That is really really green. Mine (Sonny) has not laid a second one yet darn it! The sister to that one, the Wheaten Am/Marans cross OE (Carlie) however is broody now. Yay. She lays the nice olives :( My white rock (Snoflake) finally got off the nest two days ago, and now Carlie is sitting, 2 days straight. That is the last one I expected to go broody on me! I have never had an Ameraucana or EE go broody. Bye bye eggs to that one. Good luck in your Tough Mudder~!! Hope you make it through without freezing!

My Blue/White crested Polish was sitting in the nest again this morning. She has been teasing me for weeks. Wonder if she will ever do it? She and my GL Polish are 7 months old! They randomly sit for hours in the nest without doing much else. But she seems to be doing it more the last few days. Hoping...to get my FIRST Polish egg someday here soon!

Madchicken, that is the tiniest egg I have ever seen! So cute! Did it have a yolk? If you could get one that size to hatch, it would look like a bug not a chick haha! A cute little furry bug. Teeny.

Red, funny how we want girl chickens, they turn out to be boys, then you want a boy turkey and......it is so hard. So do turkeys lay eggs every day like chickens? Or more during certain parts of the year? Always wondered how that works with turkeys.

My boy went to scout camp overnight, and it rained off and on here all night... thinking he is going to need some hot chocolate when he gets home at noon! Brr!
I wonder if they got any snow up in the canyon...I am not ready for that just yet.

We ate the little egg this morning for breakfast. It actually had 3 little yolks in it!

But it cooked so fast the yolks cook to. I guess its for the better cause i dont think i could have found a piece of bread small enough to dip in it.

Whoa! 3 baby yolks? That is so cool!
Blue Polish still in the nest....getting pretty noisy....oh the anticipation!
Lilwanis, the show is in Farmington...that is all I know. Utah fancy Poultry Assocation I believe....
Cynthia, when does Austin leave? I was thinking October...

madchicken, that is pretty sweet! Three little yolks, hee!

Lisa, I do know that turkeys lay, but I don't know how often. I would be very excited if any of these started laying for me. Turkey eggs are sooo pretty. I'll have to look up when they reach PoL.

My girls are being mean to me. I know I've got a new layer out there, because four eggs in one day from three layers just isn't right, especially when that fourth egg is an entirely different shape than what I've been seeing. And what's worse, three of the eggs are so close in shades of brown that I can't rely solely on color to identify them any more. The BSL's eggs have gone tan, not pink, which is one shade less red than the RIR's. And the mystery egg is the same color as the BSL's, except very round and fat with a pointy top. The BSL lays very oval shaped eggs, the RIR's are more squat and rounded. Thank goodness Peach's eggs (BO) are smaller, creamy and glossy! No trouble with hers

I'm really wondering if one of the EE's hasn't started, if that's not the SLW laying. The EE I gave to my brother is at least 8 months old, now. Her face is still so pale! I've wondered if she's just one of those chickens that never gets much color in the face. I wish I had a day where I could stake out and watch all day to see who's hanging around the nests.

Yes Lisa, Oct. 24th. Soon. He's pretty excited..I have mixed emotions.

Red..yaaay! Sasha will have her bator soon! Thank you soo much you two.

Today..Hector took the buff Polish. She didn't just started walking around eating the scratch he had down, if one of his chickens came at her, she can move! Soon, they didn't bother her, but kept going after the Ameraucana though. That settled down a bit before I left.

I had two out of the three Swedish Flower Hen eggs hatch. One was fully developed, but gone, it had two yolks. ? I did get anther black and yellow..hoping it's a girl of course, but, it already has a bigger comb than the other baby has. The other one looks a lot like that last light one I had, if anyone remembers..it has a blue back, with whitish color on the sides. Will be interesting to watch those colors!

themad..how in the world did three yolks get in there? lol...they had to be tiny!! That would have been fun to see.

aravis..just a reminder..you can use less heat now..just use a smaller bulb, if you haven't already gone down. You want them to aclamate pretty good so they can do well outside this winter. I have a 40 W bulb in my large bin for a Sweidsh I left indoors, but the Australorp, the leghorn..same age as the Aus..and one of the Swedish Flower babies have been out of the coop and running around in the run. They go inside the coop with a 100 W bulb at night for now. They are doing just fine. I kept the one Swedish in because it was smaller than the other one that is out..but, it will be going out to the nursery hutch soon, along with my Frizzle, two Favorelles.
Just think, eggs, come early spring. :) Enjoy them as babies, they grow fast!

Lisa, what are you thinking about the splash? I am back at thinking this other one is a girl..ha, just like my black Ameraucana, tricking me back and forth.

Sundance....loooove that frizzle. Pretty sassy little thing..I am calling *her* Dutchess. If she, is a he, then the gal I will be giving him too, will have to come up with a name. For some reason, I don't think he will mind..but, it Has, to be a girl! Those feathers are popping out more and more..on the feet too.

Will post pictures of my two new babies tomorrow.

Listen to you Red..all those eggs, and it wasn't that long ago, you were wondering where the eggs were.
