Utah!

I've been doing so much reading on egg binding and internal laying. I have concluded that there is really nothing else I can do for my little one. I'm just going to make her as happy and comfortable as I can. She is still doing fine right now. Walking slow but still eating and moving around.

I need to hatch some eggs to get though this slump.

Cynthia great hatch were those shipped eggs?

Sorry about your baby. :( Those silkies are just soo lovable..even my husband and son love them!
And yes, I had those shipped. I guess the cinnamon are quite rare..hoping I get one out of the six! They could be just the Lights, but those are pretty too. :)

Sad thing ~ I just lost my canary! He was getting older, but not sure old enough to die? He hadn't been singing in a while, so thought maybe he was moulting>> again. I love canaries..always have one. Will get another sometime I'm sure. Macho was his name.

Sphinx, no I won't keep this Polish Boy, I really love him though :) Just not ready to keep a rooster yet.
Cynthia, Yes my last one to lay in a month is the sister (same hatch) to yours. :) The two Wheatens that started laying just lately were born exactly one month before those last ones, so it should be a month ish. I tell you what...so far on ALL the Wheatens/Blue Wheatens---they get blood-red right around the mouth and eyes all of a sudden, then start laying right after that. My NN still has a boyish look...stocky legs, not much tail, big wattles and comb, but the good thing is no red to them at all yet. Still crossing fingers! I have an EE pullet that sure looked like a boy for a long time. I love this little NN, it is the sweetest, friendliest little baby. I open the coop door and it just comes running and it is really easy to pet and hang out with. My son calls it Larry lol--
I really hope that is not jinxing it, I keep telling him it will be his fault if it turns out to be a boy.
Speaking of EE leghorn mixes, Daloorashens is letting me buy one of hers :) Smiley cartwheels :) I just have to get to Idaho Falls to pick it up. For sure going at Thanksgiving, but maybe sooner. If anybody goes to Idaho Falls---haha---holler :) You GOTTA meet Mesha. Total chicken addict like myself! Woot! :p

My husband will be in IF Wednesday and Thursday ...

Ohh!!! Do you know if he comes through Logan on the way back? OR...if he comes back through Tremonton on I15, do you know what time of day he will be driving back through? I could meet him if it was after 6 pm...that would be amazing. I bet I can figure out a way to make it work, if he would be willing to pick up my chicken in Id Falls before he headed back here....if it were not a time when I could meet him...I could even see if someone else this way could get it from him...let me know if he knows what time (approximately).

He takes I15 up and down. He leaves around 330 on Thursday.

I don't know the geography that way very well but I will talk to him when I get home. Sounds like after six is likely this time around...

Mimi--I sure do love my Silver laced polish boy, he has gotten so beautiful....the lady from Wyoming has not come to pick him up yet, and I am kind of ok with that, I am going to have a hard time letting that boy go. He is going to make some beautiful babies! I wish she lived closer, then I could snag one of his chicks when the time comes! He is getting those pretty saddle feathers that hang down the side of his tail. His hairdo is gigantic too....why o why do the cutest Polish turn out to be boys lol it happens every time. Are you going to keep yours? Are you still sure they are both boys

Yeah im still thinking they are boys :( ive put them on ksl to see if id get any bites and I havent. It is oh soooo hard, if rooster to hen ratio didnt have an affect on my girls id just keep them. Theres a lady in central utah who will have some polish hatch on friday. It seems like she can sex them that early so im debating on getting a couple polish girls from her.

Yup that would work out perfect! He would be coming through around 5:45. I could even be a few minutes before six. Pm me when you find out for sure...

I will check to see what hours Mesha works Thursday to see if it would work for her. Thanks!

i use only one waterer for my girls. just a 5 gallon bucket with 4 heavy duty nipples. and i have a heater that drops in that will kick on when the water gets down to around freezing temperature. i will just take a bucket of water and fill the waterer up since i cant use a hose. i actually got my nipples local, a guy in west jordan sells them by the nipple or by the bucket with nipples installed. the price was so much better than ifa. i even got some extra nipples so i can make another waterer if i want.

they will make less of a mess if you have your bucket set at the right height, its a very common mistake to make.

Problem is, I have chickens of several heights, so I have to cater to the shortest ones so everyone can reach. As it is, Fonzie the tag along little brother, can't reach anyway, so he has his own watering dish.

I'd love to hear precisely which heater you use in your bucket. I need to get going and buy one. I was thinking of buying this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FK03E8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A16EQQFLPSKFJZ but I would either remove that anti-bite coil or just move it so it wasn't under the surface. Reviews were saying it starts rusting almost immediately, and I don't need to worry about them biting the cord- it'll be out of chicken reach.

Red, I'm cracking up at them accusing you of testing out the incubator. Too funny!!

Cynthia, I'm so sorry for the loss of your canary. I've noticed they can be sooooo sensitive to the slightest thing, and can be tough to keep alive. I've had a couple and just love them.

That sounds like a great idea! Does she vent sex them? i wish I could do that. What colors she hatching? Hope you get girls! I have a the worst time trying to sex them by feathers, crests, anything else, they seem to defy all the standard boyish/girlish rules. And have had way too many boys this year, no matter where I get them, just seems to be mostly boys :)
