Utah!

this is the deicer i use http://www.amazon.com/Farm-Innovato...qid=1350945409&sr=1-2&keywords=utility+deicer sorry for the loss of your canary cynthia :( we got my mom one this year and he has been such a joy! i have a good friend that breeds them, lots of different colors and very good genetics, she is who i go to for all my canary questions. she sells them out of a store in sandy. she is also a painter and has this print of a painting i am going to get of hers, its of two hens and a rooster that she once had :) edit: for the height i would set it for the biggest birds and have a block of wood or something the little ones can use to stand on :)

Dangit Cynthia, why did you have to bring up canaries? Now I really want one.

Lol.,.I've had canaries, like I said all my life. They haven't had any real problem, except this guy. Not sure what it was. The thing you really have to make sure of is, that they are not in a breezy place. They need to be in a room where there won't be any cool air hitting on them..like the air conditioner, out door opening and closing. I had this guy in a bedroom at the back of the house. No drafts. I've had him for almost 5 years. Very pretty orange and white.
Get your self one. As you know, the males sing...not the girls.

I was on ksl looking, but they are all up north. I saw some nice ones in SLC. Will be watching. :)

Guess what guys! I had one of my hens go crazy! She was broody for a few weeks and eventually left the nest but never really left her broody trance, A few days ago I walk out and see her sitting on the Polish Baby Cynthia gave me! She thinks it's her baby! Poor thing :( The Polish kind of listens to her but doesn't really understand why the hen treats her like a baby. She does enjoy being cozy at night. (Now I don't have to keep bringing her inside with the lamp!) She sits cozily in the nest UNDER the small hen. (Cynthia you saw her. The ugly white, silkie mix hen) So funny. Is this normal?

Chiko, that is so funny! I have no idea if it's normal or not.

Cynthia, I've had four or so throughout my life. My last one was a red factor canary. He was so cute and fun. We named him "Coleman" because we went camping a couple days after we got him, and the kids realllllly wanted to take him along. When we moved to Japan, I gave him to my mom to babysit. She loved him so much that when we came home, I didn't have the heart to take him back.

Whoa, rewind. Sphinx, you've been to Japan? I'm jealous. I love a lot of Asian stuff, particularly Japanese stuff.

Cynthia, sorry you lost your canary. Birds are such cool creatures.

Hector, that poor Polish. That is funny, though.

So I moved some stuff around in the game preserve and cleaned up a bunch of areas that needed attention. I used to have several slabs of plywood leaning up against an old teeter totter we have out there, and the turkeys and BR's liked to roost on top of the wood. Well, the plywood is now over against the run, which seemed to confuse that group. They kept trying to get up on the teeter totter to roost, then losing their balance as they slid down. It was funny to see, but I grabbed them before too long and put them on top of the run. They seemed content with that.

how about all this wind today? been crazy out there. hector that is so funny about your broody! poor girl just wants to be a mom so bad.
I don't think my silkies left the protection of their favorite bush. I don't think they ventured out into the open grass at all today. My little bantam RIR rooster done his best to stay with the big girls in the wind but you could tell he wasn't having much fun. He spent a lot of time in cover under a bush.

Yup that would work out perfect! He would be coming through around 5:45. I could even be a few minutes before six. Pm me when you find out for sure...
I will check to see what hours Mesha works Thursday to see if it would work for her. Thanks!

Gah!! I work on Thursday!! (a 12hr shift, which pretty much destroys the day because it's more like 13-14 hrs) However, DH I believe is watching kiddos that day, and I know he would not be sad to see a chicken leave this place

So let me check with him and I will let you know...

Rained pretty much all day today... still went to my mom's and extended the roof and patched up some holes (remember, not pretty but functional, it's pretty much ramshackle, actually, but the chickens are safe, lol)

Sorry about the canary, I love birds, we had parakeets for a while, and sold them right before I had my 2nd baby, they were pretty noisy and I didn't have a good safe place for them... we still have a good-sized cage, though.. I would love a canary, such a pleasant little bird...

and ACK!!!!!! guys, I am SOOOO excited I can hardly stand it... I've been on the swap pages and so far have a bunch of SFH eggs headed my way in the spring, most likely some Russian Orloffs, Wheaten Marans, and maybe Isbars or Basque eggs... I might need help hatching them all out

I'm feeling almost giddy....... oh, and Lisa, there's a chance I'll get some Tolbunts that would be 1st generation out of greenfire farms=) One of the swaps was a mystery GFF swap, so don't know for sure yet....
