Utah!

Ooh, I'll play! At my house, we've got 21 chickens; 5 boys, two girls too young to lay. On a good day, I get two eggs. And on a really good day, I find a hidden nest

And my BF reports no eggs from the four girls at his place.

Birdman, that joke is ..... I'm still laughing about it. Too funny. Smart roo

Good morning chickies! I went out to gather eggs....

better get out there sooner. The time changed and they are laying an hour earlier on my new clock! I cannot believe none of them were broken.

Oh Lisa! You have a great variety! You know I'm loving those green ones!

Sphinx, I hear you on a mean rooster. I have a sister that got hurt pretty bad back in our childhood. She came in with real bloody legs. That rooster was on the dinner table the next day.

Brad...that was a funny joke. We knew chickens were smart, but that smart? LOL

Guess what i found tonight when i got home and checked on the chickens. My little Silkie hen that has been laying for about a month is siting on an egg. She had it up under her chest with her feathers all fluffed out so it was right against her skin. I have had hens lay late in the evening and not find their way back to the roost but they acted like the egg was not very comfy to sleep on. i have never had a broody hen so i might be over reacting. But still just for fun i slipped a EE egg under her to see what she would do with it. I gave her about an hour and checked on her. She had pulled it up right next to her egg and had made her self comfy. Both eggs are fertile. I will check tomorrow and see if she is still sitting. I hope she is going broody cause this is the reason i bought them. I plan on raising Silkies this spring for my son to have some extra money. They are going to be his responsibility. I remember raising rabbits for food when i was young and i had the job of taking care of them (breeding, feeding, cleaning, and killing) at the age of ten.

Wow. i love those dark eggs, are they from your BCM?

Thanks! My current pure BCM's have not started laying yet. They should be lots darker than those...there is one from a Marans cross (hatchery), it is toward the middle, the other toward the bottom right is from my GSL.
This pic below shows the eggs that my BCM hatched from :) I have one that I hatched, then I bought the others already hatched from the same breeder (pawtraitart). Nice and dark :) Really excited about them starting to lay, I like the dark eggs too! When they start laying, i will post pictures for sure after I wash the drool off the eggs. :drool

Madchicken, that's awesome! Now I really want a Silkie so that I can have a broody hatch out chicks.........except I have too many birds, as it is. Boo. I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through the Silkies that others on here have.

Lisa, yep. Two. Good ol' RIR and BSL lay every couple of days or so. Except I'm thinking more and more that my mystery cream/white egg layer IS my Icelandic. These eggs are getting lighter, and they aren't shaped like my BO's..........who is still on strike and way red in the comb.........little brat. So I may be up to three eggs on a good day, yay! Now if I could just find where my Leghorn may be nesting. It's driving me crazy.

salt lake animal services posted this plea on facebook so i thought i would post it here in case any of you need a mouser "ATTENTION THIS IS AN URGENT PLEA FOR HELP!!

We have recently stumbled upon a difficult case that our agency is trying to resolve. While working on a feral colony for the TNR program we nor did the homeowner actually realize how many cats he was caring for.

We are now facing a critical decision! We have to re-locate roughly 40-60 cats!!! Due to the conditions of the home we cannot release them back to the property and currently are trying to make a temporary home here at the shelter. We do not want to euthanize the cats so we are desperately trying to seek out new locations for the cats to live. Unfortunately they are all feral and not handle able.

We do have to face a deadline however. If we cannot find a new home for all of them by Monday Nov. 19th we will have to euthanize the remaining cats!!!!

We have had a few responses but are still in dire need of help! Please cross post this plea and contact us if you can help!!

All of them are sterilized, ear-tipped, and vaccinated.

If you have a rescue partner, friend, family member, associate, ANYONE who wants a barn cat, can add to their existing colony, or help us in any way please contact me immediately!!

[email protected]" forgive me but i know you are all animal lovers so i thought i would post it. :)
