Utah!

Red, they might be pranking ya! Aw!

My Wheaten that always drops her egg in the run finally laid in her nest this morning. Yippee! No more soccer in the run :D Now we can actually eat her eggs instead of toss them out. She would sit in the nest for an hour or so, then go out of the coop into the run, then, plop. And the face . haha poor girl, glad she got it right this time. The few times I caught her doing it , she had this look of embarrassment, this will be good for her self esteem lol. Did I really say that out loud?! Awww Geez...this is why my family always has this face at me :/.........

Here is my new wheat fodder on the third day. It's going crazy, and, it is swirling together on the bottom, so It stayed pretty good when I tilted it to get the water out when I drained after rinsing this morning.
I'm excited..not as expensive as spinach!

Not covering it with a paper towel now. This shows a place where I turned some over.
And, just went in to check it, it's even taller now than this morning when I took the picture!
Wow...now I hope the chickens will like! lol...

so next spring i will most likely be in the market for some silkies. my sis has some land out near vernal now and loves silkies so i may get her and her kids a bunch. they are also in the market for some goats so if anyone has some please let me know. she does not want milk goats but may go for a male milk goat. i know she wants some fainting goats too. she has also said i can get some animals to stick out there but seeing i would not be able to see them much i am not in a hurry. they have gotten a few horses so far and me and her husband are trying to get her used to the idea of a beef cow. but yeah i may be looking for some silkies sometime in the spring :)

Ok. I have putting it off for awhile now but since i moved my bantams into the secure run due to the falcon problem i have no choice if i want them to have fresh greens. Im going out to the shed and find some thing to use. I figure if i have seven 10" dishes once i get it going then i should be able to give them greens every day. As long as it only takes 1 week for them to go from seed to 3" greens. Lisa you started first how is yours doing? Its been about a week now. Show us some pictures please...

Mine did ok, but I was using the older wheat. It sprouted a little slower, and not quite as dense. I soaked it on a Thursday night, started it in the tray on Friday night, and fed to them this morning...so 9 1/2 days instead of the 6 it should take. They LOVED it! I did not get a picture before I fed it...but it was about 4-5 inches tall, nice and lush. Not quite as thick as the pics from the others I saw on the fodder thread though, but the consensus is that the fresher wheat has a much better germination rate. I am still going to use up some of my older wheat this way though, even if it takes a little longer, it just makes sense to save the money on feed by using that up. I have not soaked a new batch yet, we were moving patio furniture, and getting the garage cleaned out today to get ready for the cold snap. I plan to get some soaking tomorrow night, I am going to do one batch of the older wheat and one batch of the newer wheat just to compare. Cynthia says it is a night and day difference..I want to to have alittle fun with the new stuff :) They really ate every single strand. My WR that has been broody, and got thin, was standing in one of the feed pans biting at the other gals trying to get some. She must know that she really needed that healthy stuff!

Hopefully Cynthia can post pics when hers is done for you. I will get a pic of my next batch before feeding. It does get a little stinky toward the end, I rinsed like crazy to be sure it did not mold, and put it outside during the day yesterday because my kitchen smelled kinda funky. Just to warn ya ;) I think some seeds on the bottom were fermenting. I am going to make a little bit bigger drainage holes this time in my foil, or find some more containers.

I feel bad. We had to catch some of the chickens tonight to re-clip their wings, and it got the rest of the birds upset. When I went to trim the feathers on one of the turkeys, she was shaking and wouldn't take a treat from me. Now I feel like a monster

It's not like we were mean to them or anything. Some of them did need to be chased down, but we tried to be careful about grabbing them.

Red, how sad....you are such a sweet sensitive girl, your chickens will love you again, I bet they won't even remember tomorrow! Find her a worm, that'll do the trick :p They will be better off a little mad at ya than over the fence where the big bad dogs are.

Mimi congrats on the milestone!

It's a little scary, but it's for their own good.

Sundance, I think I definitely want to trade roosters with you. That BCM boy is much cuter than mine, so when I can, I'll get in touch with you to trade birds. You can take my rooster to freezer camp.
