Utah!

Blujems....your poor girl looks like she is cold! haha! the blue wheaten sure us pretty. I have a muff-picker in my group, an EE, she eats the food off of everybody's muffs so they are scraggly. I love the beard on your blue wheaten, so fluffy!

Hattie, that is one cool looking chicken! Great plumage for sure, those will be adorable!

Madchicken, I am the wrong person to chime in on this :duc I say when it comes to chickens....more is better. always. LOL

Red, glad your turkey is doing better :) It is so cute how much you love your turkeys.

Sphinx, what were you doing in Vegas! Fun! (or does it stay in Vegas??)

. does anyone have or know of someone else that may have some hens that need a good home were they can be spoiled.

Ok guys I am doing ok. My chest really hurts though. They were able to find out the problem and I qualify for a new medication. The dr. Says it will not extend my life but will make my quality of life good. Going home today. On lots of pain medication. I was diagnosed with pulmonary Hypertension.

Glad you are going home. Take it easy and rest, let yourself heal.

I am thinking about covering the sides and top of the small runs with tin to help keep the heat in the coop at night. Plus it should help block the wind a little. I do not close the coop up at night because I think they like staying out in the runs until the last possible minute.

Maybe I should take pics so you can see what I am talking about?

Sundance, I'm glad you're doing alright. Sorry that you are having a lot of pain, though. I think I've had some people in my family with PHT. Not fun stuff.

Lisa, your tale of the muff picker made me giggle. "Oh here, let me get that for you..." My chickens are always picking stuff off of each other. You can tell if they're on good terms with someone else, because they'll "groom" them. Friends get groomed. Nemeses get bit.

Mimi, aww

What's the deal with the chicks?

Cynthia, oooh! Is that a Royal Palm? I loooove those (sucker for B&W birds) So pretty. Turkeys are sure a lot of fun, but I've noticed that they do get a bit more aggressive as they get bigger. Despite them being pushy birds, I'm still cheered by their antics every day. And the little white turkey that was sick is now doing much better

Madchicken, I saw your ad on KSL and thought, "Ooh! Those would be fun to have." I would give you one of my girls, but where I'm still trying to figure out if it was a little cold everyone had, or if it was dust in their food that was making them cough, I'd rather not spread contagions. Sorry!

Blu, yes! Pics! I have slabs of plywood shielding parts of my run to help block the elements.

Alright, so the predators are definitely getting more hungry. After I let everyone out this morning to feed them, I went in the kitchen to eat some breakfast. Not a minute later, I saw a hawk circling way too close to my chickens and checking them out, then landing in a nearby tree. Boots went on my feet, I went out the door, and the hawk took off when I got to the gate of the preserve. I really love BoP, but this guy cannot come shopping here. It's not the kestrel that I've seen before. My guess is that it's probably a Cooper's hawk that's moved in for the winter. So, everyone got put back into their pens, with the exception of the turkeys. I figure they're too big for a Cooper's hawk to take down, by now. I threw a bunch of shavings and some more feed into the pens so that the chickens have something to do, but I know they're not happy about being back inside.

Sundance, I'm glad you'll be going home today. I'm sure you feel really, really sore. I'm sorry about the PH diagnosis. I think you already knew that though, right? Quality of life is so important. I'm glad this will improve it. Not perfect (that would be adding quality AND quantity), but better. If you're up for it, I'll try to come visit you on Saturday.

Mimi, how come no chicks? :(

MadChicken, I'm surprised nobody wants your hens. Why are you getting rid of them?

Red, glad you got out there before the hawk got any of your chickens.

We have soooo many hawks and other birds of prey, I'm not sure I'd be able to have my chickens out free ranging without my direct supervision. On the other hand, I always have at least 50-100 birds in my yard. Maybe one of them would make a tasty snack?

OK, So I took a few pics. I couldn't do the tin like I thought, it needs to be cut and I am not up to that today. I found some stuff and got it covered. well at least it will cut down on wind and should help a little. I have been worried because the wind seemed to come right in through the doors to the run.

This side of their run I ran out of material but it should cut down on the wind blowing inside the coop.

These were the eggs I found while I was out there. The FBCM egg is getting darker. yay!

and just cause they were being cute...Our Babies Tinkerbell and Handsome Jack.

blu, great pictures! Love your coop, it's so hard to get everything just the way you are thinking it should work! The weather, it does it's own thing, causes havoc on our poor chickies, and us! But, it looks like your doing a great job at getting that wind cut down.

And, I love...your eggs! Good size!! I love speckled eggs! :)

Red, I worry about those hawks too. We have a coopers hawk that takes turns at different homes around here with chickens. So far, only one has been taken since the fall. There is too much snow here to even think of letting my chickens out. They would be on snow! My fodder is their only green for now.
Sure is melting today though. Almost 40 out there. Drip, drip, drip. Everywhere!

Soo nice to get the coops clean. I love it, so I'm sure my chickens love it too. :) It's nice to get it done when you've been thinking of getting it done, but have to wait on weather.

Diane, so glad you are able to come home. Glad they are figuring things out for you. Hoping all works well!
