Utah!

Did it look like this one on the left? The American Kestrel aka Sparrow Hawk.... Males have the red while the females do not..
You are amazing, you know these things! You really are "birdguy" ! Thanks for posting this, I am armed with information and dangerous. I have to figure out what this giant bird is we have in our back tree, if i can get a picture i will post and see if anybody knows what it is. It is not these...it is HUGE. Birdguy--this is funny. Lady called me today, about the FBCM chicks--she just happened to be the one wanting turkey eggs from you in Logan. Small world eh? WE were trading info and she is talking about the turkey guy in Id Falls. haha. Bet I know who that is! It was you. Pawtraitart, I also gave her your webpage info, she is interested in started pullets, I am out of chicks for now. Hope she calls you :) I told her I have some birds ordered from you too so maybe we can ride-share if they are ready at the same time. She is on BYC but have not seen her post yet.

He was saying they lay at about 8 weeks old, and lay an egg a day, really well...that sounds good to me! He said the bobwhite were nice too, not as messy poop, but the coturnix lay a little bigger eggs? Seems like something fun to try. I LOVE the button quail, they are so cute, but only want ones I can keep outside in the run for now.

Do you have a preference bob white or coturnix? I am information-gathering before I decide

I really like the call the bob whites make. The button quail eggs are tiny tiny. I have 5 in my incubator. I hatched quite a few last year. They are so small when hatched hard to raise.

We have several of these in out neighborhood. Last year the neighbors dog caught a baby. Of course the neighbor brought it to me, It was just partially feathered, I talked Tracy Avairy into taking it. They hunt the sparrowns and starlings and an occasional pigeon. My dogs are so small I worry about the larger birds of prey. the three yorkies weigh 2 to 3 pounds the schnauzer weighs 5 pounds. . L very large hawk could take one of them

I still have some BCM chicks if she wants to come this way. I have some hatchery birds coming on Mon or Tues, Today I went and got some very large tubs for brooders.

I have been looking for a vet in Utah that would do a decrowing procedure on a rooster so I could have a viable flock for years.... I even offered to split cost with a vet on equipment to try the procedure and got no where. Shoot me an E-mial if you know the information on the vet that is performing the procedure so I can get in touch with them.

Bob white eggs are not good to eat.. They cook up like rubber... Cotunix eggs are much better. Coturix are very tame gentle birds that do not fly too well. Bobwhites can bust up and fly like crazy.

Hey Lisa,
I finally was able to get on the site.
Bryan

Hey Bryan! Welcome! :welcome
I wondered if that was you when you asked about the decrowed roos :D Sundance's friend does it, I hope you can get one somehow!
So it sounds like coturnix is the way to go, they have to be good eating eggs for sure. I am excited to try them :) Now to find hatching eggs. I know I saw a guy on here from Idaho that had some, will need to investigate!

Sundance, will pass the info along on the bcm babies. What else do you have for sale right now?

Oh hey you guys-- Bryan is the animal control guy so he knows about all the bird keeping laws around here, very helpful! LOL I was teasing about what my neighbors would think when he was parked here picking up my baby roosters....."she has finally done it, they are hauling her and aaaalllll those chickens away"!!

I am sure none of you have neighbors that think you have gone mad, right? Not us. We are not chicken geeks at all.....

Sphinx do you have any fertile eggs for sale right now? Trying to see what there is out there if I wanted to have DH bring me back a few things on his trip down south :D
