Our family is going to be in Utah for 2 weeks in early July for 2 family reunions, so keep us posted if anybody is planning a Utah Chickenstock get-together!

Unfortunately, the first 2 weeks in July seem to be family reunion time. Most of our family won't be around.

Since it seems there are more and more of us around, does anyone want to propose a date, time, place and agenda for a chicken stock?

I've never done Tour de Coops, nor been to a Chickenstock, but do we want to piggyback something that same day, or in the afternoon? Alternatively, we might plan for a week or two later so we could advertise at the Tour. Of course, that puts it in the beginning of July, which is good for NiftyChicken but bad for others.

I've never done Tour de Coops either, but this year would be perfect. And a chickenstock too? I'm in. I don't want my coop officially on the tour cause I'm technically unofficial

I think having the chickenstock a week or so later would be perfect. Maybe make it a regular monthly or bi-monthly get together and have it at each one of our homes...so we can see everyone's chicks and coops. Just a thought.

Personally, July 4th doesn't work for me. June 27th would be OK, as would July 11th. Or would people like to meet beforehand? The end of June seems a ways off at this point (especially since it's currently SNOWING outside my window. rats). I'd be glad to host a gathering at my place if people are willing to travel down to Highland (seems most of you are in Salt Lake County). But not until my coop is finished!

Is there already a group in this area? I found the Utah Fancy Poultry Association online, but their website (http://utahfancypoultry.org) says it was established to foster "the breeding, hatching, raising and showing of fancy poultry." What exactly does "fancy poultry" mean? Personally, my birds aren't fancy. We enjoy their silly personalities and the eggs are great, but fancy we are not.

Also, this is a threadjack, but Wasatch Community Gardens is also having a class on "Urban Chickens" on Wednesday, June 24th, Grateful Tomato Garden, 800 S 600 E, 7-8:30 p.m. So it's just a few days before the Tour de Coops. This is the description from their website: "Great eggs and great fertilizer come from happy poultry. Learn the chicken care basics. We will cover local regulations, coops, breeds, and any fowl questions. Suggested donation $5. Seating is limited. In order to reserve a seat, please email Krystal Rogers at [email protected] or call 801-359-2658 x12."

I've already signed up to reserve my spot - and I'm bringing my daughter.
