Utah!

Lisa..is your Japanese getting a red looking comb?  I thought .. oh no.  Then I thought, oh wait.  :D   This little one is a lot older than it looks.  Could she be getting red now?  If it's a she?   I see red wattles too, not real big, but red.  :/   I hope it's just because of the age.

Mine has really red wattles and in the ear area---comb red at the base, orange on the top and spikes...I was a little worried too, but I totally remember my other one looking red early so I am hopeful. Her tail and all other areas look really female to me. Wow she is tiny, I just keep moving her down with a younger batch, the chicks all outgrow her before I can get her integrated with the big girls. She looks like a little dove. I woul say her body shape and size a little smaller than an average mango. Such a sweet baby though :)

Cynthia, my NN ear area is crazy red, so same question back to you is that normal for 6 weeks? The comb looks ok still.

Got my SG eggs, both batches today. One batch came in great shape, air cells just like they are supposed to be, great shipping, with the shredded paper around them instead of plastic. The other ones were not upright and have some detached air cells. A little sweaty from the tight plastic on them...Actually all the air cells but one were detached and looking pretty bad. But I am going to see what happens. Crossing fingers! At least one batch came in good shape, so I am grateful to the postal workers who handled that one :)

Red, I am definitely breeding and hatching this year. I have a couple fellow FFA members interested in purchasing eggs though, and would like to know who else might be interested before I start making any plans. Though this is my first time, and I am worried about fertility after reading some of the posts here. I've also decided to try to purchase a Silkie hen... I really want some Brahma/Silkie cross chicks. XP If I can convince my mom to let me raise some more lol... If not I'll have to keep them at Wheeler or something, and will be able to spend less time with them, unless I have them hatch once school is out... We'll see how it works out. owo

Ha, I had to go to the NN thread and ask about that very thing. They will go red like that off and on. When they are excited for food, or stressed if you pick them up. It will go lighter, but really go red when anything unusual happens. My T. K., the one sundance got for me, goes red a lot. She gets real excited for food. :) My DH named her T. K. You know..Turken? :D

You would have loved my BBW tom, then, Standing up with his neck stretched up for food, he could just about reach chest level on me. And I'm 5'5"! He is currently camping out at my BF's house and keeping him company. Freezer camp has been somewhat delayed for him.

I am going to keep this in mind

Turkeys are more expensive than chickens, but they really are a lot of fun to raise. Not to mention beautiful, and they make tasty eggs

I had a Delaware pullet last year. Loved her so much, still miss her. I am happier than I thought I'd be to have another. Good luck with the judging!

Oh Red,

I love my Delawares!!!! Have two 1 year old hens I fell in love with and just picked up 5 more 6 week old pullets. Still looking for a young roo for them all!!

I have a bunch of roosters in a section of the coop. I clean it and put down shavings and filled up the water bowl. Came back later and the bowl is empty and all the roosters are soaked. So I put down some straw to keep them dry and give more water and the next morning same thing. How do I get them to stop playing in the water? It is too cold for them to be wet all the time.

Get one of those hanging drip water buckets. They would have to be seriously determined to get themselves wet with one of those.
