Utah!

Here is my 2...Kinda thinking the dark on is a rooster but not positive because I have a young one from Casa that has a lot of blue in it.
Mine is right in the middle of that! It is the same shade of brown as your light colored one, but a little darker shade. Would that mean girl?!? Just say yes. ;)

It will make it easier to butcher them :) Maybe time for a cornish game hen size chicken dinner....lol

I have straight run chicks, so you know how that will go in a bout 6 weeks. Especially with it being ME as the owner. I get more boys than anyone has a right to expect. So if you want more
you know who to call lol :D

Lilwanis, I am about 75 percent sure my one Houdans is a boy, another 2 weeks I should wait I think. The feathers on the head are starting to look pointed in the front, just a few starting--still no red or pink showing though. The other one I am sure is female. Are yours all looking like girls? How about those SBEL's?

Doughie how is your Houdan looking? Just wondering for comparison, if anybody has seen pink or red yet. Hope they are all girls like they are supposed to be!

My houdans all seem girly so far. The SBEL'S I go back and forth on. I can't decide at all  the am's that I got from blu...two boys and a pretty and whiny girl. The marans...I just don't know how to tell with them. They are just over a week though. Hopefully more girls than boys.

I personally think yours looks girly but ya never know. I have never raised one from hatching so I can't be sure. Casa will have to look she knows more than I do.

1st chick out of the day :)

A little fat Blue Ameraucana! Yay!

She still has some pasty face going on, just hatched around 1 a.m. this morning.

I have a Blue marans out too :) Must by Cynthia's talk about blues yesterday that got them going :)

Lisa, gorgeous! Asher would just die for one like those-- he keeps telling me he is going to start a flock of those next year. Looks like I am going to have to build yet another coop up at the land. The child is no longer satisfied with a couple of Easter Eggers from the feed store!

I have a question, hoping you all can answer it... How much should I hope to expect to pay for a couple of Silkies? I'm looking to use some for breeding and I'd like to start saving up. I'm on a budget, so I'm not looking for show quality, as long as they are some sort of Silkie I don't care... I'm not sure one the color yet, but I do intend to have them cross with my Brahmas, so I'd like to get a color that would create an interesting cross. (Suggestions?) It's still in thought, but it's a plan I do plan to go through with. I do also still plan to breed my Brahmas, and maybe my chicks I currently have will be used for breeding. ^^ This is partly an educational project... I'm excited about hybrids lol

I plan on selling one of the chicks I have right now... Also selling one of my Brahma hens. I'm going to start collecting eggs for hatching in a couple weeks if I can find more people interested. Worried about selling them all.

I leave for Poultry Judging on Monday! :3 It'll be fun... Hopefully.

Pancake, Sundance is hatching some eggs for me now. If any hatch she has first pick but the rest are going to be for sale. They are due on 4-29 or 4-30. There are only five eggs so if all goes well 3 or 4 should make it.

Pancake-- I will also have a chance of having silkies with my showgirl hatch, there should be a batch with a 50/50 chance of being silkies...but they have been bred with showgirls so I do not think I would use them for breeding silkies only, they have had the other genes added in up the line. But if the others do not work out it is a backup plan... Mine wont hatch until 5/9 I just set them this morning. Selling chicks has been ridiculously easy the last few weeks on KSL and just around town with people looking and calling...hopefully it stays that way for you :) I would not worry too much....

I HAVE to ask, I keep thinking this....where does the username Pancake Shiners originate, what made you think of that? It is so funny :) I love it.

So long as no more blue or black shows up in the body I would say pullet

Cute baby! Don't they have the sweetest faces, and little green eyes?

I Have out so far--1 Blue Marans, 2 Blue (pretty!) Pure Ameraucanas, 1 Barnevelder, 1 Wheaten Marans. Looks like that will probably be it for this batch, this is the one I had over 40 eggs and threw out over 30

I am actually really happy that ANY hatched at all, I had prepared myself for them to be duds. Most of these came from a weird shipment--It was packed with two 18 cartons on top of each other, with a little bubblewrap taped around the two cartons in a box that they barely fit into, not much cushioning, it was a small dense heavy box = not good. Many had cracks...not a good way to ship IMHO. Such a fun variety though in the few I did get, I am still a happy camper today. I set the showgirl eggs this morning, so hoping all goes well in three weeks! Will post pics later as they all get fluffy.

Blujems are you selling shipped eggs? If you need more packing stuff let me know, I can save the stuff that came with the last few batches.
Oh no... I just got her out to hold today and stretched out her wing... there's black on some of the under layer wing feathers... am I doomed?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Hello all
frow.gif
,

Love all the baby pics, being hatched and know the joy they bring!!!

I pop in and pop out, catch up on topics, but have been super busy insulating my chicken shed and paneling the walls.

Have my two brooders finally going with my 5 huge, young Delaware pullets in the top brooder (just waiting for a run to be done so I can bump chickens around and put them in the 'Junior' coop), and the neighbor's 13 younger Speckled Sussex, 4 Sexlink and my 2 Welsummers in the bottom one. Just have to finish up; think I'll be finished this week, then can get the goats and horses finished (geez, think I'll use the word finish again...lol) up with worming and hooves trimmed...ugh!!!

Have a young pure Ameracauna blue hen that has developed Wry Neck.
sad.png
Have been feeding her by hand and made a brace out of material, duct tape and electrical tape, for her neck and head. Have her in a small cage so that she can lean on her side, which helps. She seems to be doing better but I've read that it can take from a week to a year, to totally heal up. My three older hens are slowing way down in their production so I am looking for replacement, show quality pure Ameracauna pullets (with also a show quality unrelated roo, as my young roo isn't doing his job very efficiently it seems, from today's candling). If any of you have any extra pure Ameracauna (still egg producing hens, pullets, young roos, or too-young-to-tell chicks), I'm very interested in purchasing!!!

Have incredible news to share!!! Husband has decided to purchase a cabinet incubator for me
wee.gif
. Miracles never cease!!!! Think maybe he's figuring it all out...lol.

Also plan on attending Chickenstock.....YAY!!!!! He had planned on attending with me but one of his daughters pulled a poor-me-pity-party to the max, over three different weekends she decided she needed him, for her and her daughter' activities. He gave in on two of the three, as she really laid the guilt trip on him and the 'needy' act. This is actually progress...lol!!! We have plans for the third which he didn't cancel to accommodate her. I just really wish her husband would start pulling his load!!! But he doesn't want to have to pay her or the children's way, so he allows her Daddy to cover everything. Anyway, I'll be happier without him, when it comes to the poultry. He just doesn't understand our chicken obsessions...lol.

Anybody have any ideas where to find a young show quality Delaware roo??
hu.gif
Also, in search of Cream Legbars to go with my new young roo.

Well, better call it a night. Have to remember to get pics of the brooders tomorrow...ugh!!
