Utah!

Get one of those hanging drip water buckets. They would have to be seriously determined to get themselves wet with one of those.

That is a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. The little quart water things don't work either.....I swear these meat roosters are Stupid. I don't like them at all!

It will make it easier to butcher them :) Maybe time for a cornish game hen size chicken dinner....lol

I have straight run chicks, so you know how that will go in a bout 6 weeks. Especially with it being ME as the owner. I get more boys than anyone has a right to expect. So if you want more
you know who to call lol :D

Lilwanis, I am about 75 percent sure my one Houdans is a boy, another 2 weeks I should wait I think. The feathers on the head are starting to look pointed in the front, just a few starting--still no red or pink showing though. The other one I am sure is female. Are yours all looking like girls? How about those SBEL's?

Doughie how is your Houdan looking? Just wondering for comparison, if anybody has seen pink or red yet. Hope they are all girls like they are supposed to be!

I really like the little ones I have inside. they start getting into arguments and so I get a bug (box elder bugs are horrible here) and drop it in the aquarium and they all run away screaming. Makes me laugh. So far they all swear they are girls.....We all know how that goes though.

Buffbard, those chicks are awfully cute, looking like they think they're so grown up.

Lisa, those blues are adorable.

I have to say that I don't trust Bolt (my newish legbar rooster) to not, well, bolt if I let him out of the pen. But, having said that, he has been such a sweet rooster to the hens. He acts exactly as a rooster should- if I throw treats out there, he's going crazy trying to make sure all of his girls get some. It's really fun to watch. He's never come after me. I think he's still afraid of me.

I'm calling my January hatch of legbar/marans plus the marans and EE that I got from Sundance my "goth girls". They always huddle around like a gang of teenagers, and since all but once are black, they just remind me of gothy, angsty teens. It makes it even funnier because a couple of them have a crest on their heads, which look a little like punk. I wish I could get a decent shot of it. It's so funny to me. Probably I'm the only one.

Sphinx, you should try and get a picture, they sound too cute.

Lisa, I'm hatching today too. I had one hatch this morning, left for a while and had another one in there. This is my first time I've hatched in eggs cartons..so far I'm loving it! They just zip around where that air sac is, and pop the lid off. These are the Australorps. I will have sundances go into lock down on Sunday. I have three small eggs left of hers, and 6 of the pretty blue eggs and the two that look to first generation OE. Pretty darker green ones.

And, I don't think I've ever heard of roosters liking the water like that. Crazy! Aren't they big enough to eat at around 6 weeks old? They grow fast.

Hey all! Here is a chick from bluejems Wheaten Ameracaunas... any ideas whether it's a boy or a girl? It has absolutely no comb... Right now it is almost 3 weeks old.

So long as no more blue or black shows up in the body I would say pullet :) Cute baby! Don't they have the sweetest faces, and little green eyes?

I Have out so far--1 Blue Marans, 2 Blue (pretty!) Pure Ameraucanas, 1 Barnevelder, 1 Wheaten Marans. Looks like that will probably be it for this batch, this is the one I had over 40 eggs and threw out over 30 :( I am actually really happy that ANY hatched at all, I had prepared myself for them to be duds. Most of these came from a weird shipment--It was packed with two 18 cartons on top of each other, with a little bubblewrap taped around the two cartons in a box that they barely fit into, not much cushioning, it was a small dense heavy box = not good. Many had cracks...not a good way to ship IMHO. Such a fun variety though in the few I did get, I am still a happy camper today. I set the showgirl eggs this morning, so hoping all goes well in three weeks! Will post pics later as they all get fluffy.

Blujems are you selling shipped eggs? If you need more packing stuff let me know, I can save the stuff that came with the last few batches.

Not at the moment so you don't need to save them.

Here is my 2...Kinda thinking the dark on is a rooster but not positive because I have a young one from Casa that has a lot of blue in it.
