Utah!

Mine have actually just started laying in the last three weeks... I have fertile eggs which I've decided to take a chance and incubate. Are they molting? Or something? Not sure what to tell you...

I've decided I want a Japanese bantam, raised from a baby. I might look for UFPA breeders, but won't ask the association yet, not sure if I'll be doing that this year. But I would like some show-quality birds. I love my Brahmas, but was disappointed by their size. By the way, UFPA is the Utah Fancy Poultry Association. I'm a member. :3

Anyone else having probs with the chickens laying this past week? We went from starting to get a decent amount of eggs to practically nothing about 4 days ago. My 3 Cream Legbars have laid a whopping ONE egg total in five days. No one is nesting or trying to sit on the fake eggs. Not a broody in the bunch, as far as I can tell. They just aren't laying all the sudden. Out of 10 table layers I have, I'm only getting maybe 2 eggs per day. I was getting 5-6 for a while there. I tried to have a stern talk with them--something along the lines of "Give me eggs or I'll be eating meat!" But they just fluffled their feathers at me and walked off. Rude. I'm starting to think the chickens know something I don't.
Well, my Cochins aren't laying at all right now. (Surprise!) I have 2 that just co-hatched 3 chicks out of 5 eggs, not bad for their first attempt. They were being such good, attentive moms to the new babies that they stopped laying on the 2 eggs, and I was in Wisconsin so couldn't save them with the bator. Those 2 haven't started laying again yet, and then yesterday...my 3rd Cochin decided she needed to be broody, too! So because those three aren't laying, my bantam Ameraucanas aren't, either. *sigh* At least, not the past 2 days. I have a couple Serama pullets but they are just 3 months old.

:frow MINE ARE NOT LAYING! This business started a few days ago, went from 15-17 a day for a couple of weeks then all of a sudden to 6, 8, and 4 the last three days. I thought it was my broodies making everybody mad. Is it just the arrival of spring and the 'mama mentality'? Would it be the warm up in weather by itself? Or a weird coincidence.....

Where did you get your SBELS ? I may bite on those, my hatch was a total bust. Cyndiloohoo was maybe wanting some too, I could pick some up if she wants them....

If you want some let me know so I can hold them back for you, I need to go count, but there are several of them...

Cute pics of all the chicks!!

Hi to all the new peeps!!

I have 3 broody hens right now... started with 5, one quit after a few days, one of the Marans hens that was looking like she would be good is not sitting still on one nest, so I will probably have to break her.. the 2 at my house I put eggs that were in the incubator under them, they both hatched out a couple of cute chickies and they are now in boxes the garage sqawking at me everytime I look at them, silly girls..

LOTS of chicks around here right now, REALLY hoping I can sell them all next week at chickenstock, whew!!

Daloorashens where did you get them? I might want some but it depends on where you got them, I wanted some from a different breeder than mine are from, just to try a different batch. I also have a friend here that will want a couple...so I might take them all off your hands lol

Ok, looked into Japanese Bantams, remembering that they don't do well in the cold. I have a few other birds on my wishlist. Moderns are a definite favorite of mine, but they do horrible in the cold... Polish chickens are something I want really bad. Had one once, she had the weirdest personality but was sweet. So... Do we have any Polish breeders here? I can't get chicks immediately (want to time it right with the eggs I'm hatching this year, or even next year, but am curious as to who breeds them, or possibly if I should look for another breed if we've had bad experiences in the winter with Polish chickens...)

Yep, looks like I'll be selling all but one of my Brahmas. Kalahari is a definite goodbye... But idk about the others. Lilifey is named after a friend's character, she's so big, fluffy, quirky, a good layer... Mozart likes to cuddle up to me when she's scared, she's also fluffy... And Sahara will get up on my lap and sunbathe or sleep on me. I love them all. ;w; I wish I could sell some more of my chicks, but they kinda belong to my family members... Mostly my Welsummer. Belongs to my brother but it hates me and all he thinks about is putting the chick in an RC car and riding with it on his longboard (try explaining animal cruelty to your younger teenage brother...)

A breeder in FL, I believe from a Lavendar roo... Not from DMRIppy CelticOaks FArm hatched them, but she had a mixed batch in that set, I believe these were actually from Kraftyladies, who has her own lav ams and leghorns...

Mine are laying like crazy!!! Can't wait to get my cabinet incubator... I even have two hens that have gone broody; an Orpington and Ausstie!! Ugh!!

I can't even keep up with cooking eggs and feeding back to them...

Mine have stopped too, went from 5 to 1=2 eggs a day and the cuckoo maran and the SLW are still not laying.
I need to get rid of a few old hens the cuckoo maran is only a year and the slw is 2, if anyone wants them let me know.

Whooo, got some catching up to do, but my girls have slowed down on laying in the last day. Of course, that may be because I introduced a new bird to the flock. Or that they like to hide eggs from me all the time. I'm sure I'll find the nest(s) when the eggs are all bad

So in short, mine have slowed down, but I can't tell for sure if they've stopped.
