Utah!

The BLRW are very calm and friendly as adults--juveniles tend to be a bit more skittish, but that seems to be the case in most breeds I've had. Cream Legbars, I've found, are not in the least aggressive, but they also aren't overly friendly (well, at least compared to the BLRW). They have a really cool habit of frilling out their neck feathers like a dinosaur lizard, though. Isbars are flat out standoffish unless you spend a great deal of time with them. No aggression, just a little on the nervous side. The best breeds I've found for egg laying and calmness are BLRW and Welsummers. I think I have 3 BLRW hens (and one useless single-combed roo) that are around 11-12 weeks old. I have more that are supposed to hatch this next weekend as well. The 3 black BLRW hens are free for whoever wants them. I just don't have enough energy right now to do anything else with them and I won't use them for breeding. The roo is free as well, but I don't know too many people who are looking for a roo, no matter how pretty he will be.

Oh to have more room for more birds, I would LOVE to have BLRW! lol
Yes, I still have the 4 EE, and a cuckoo maran that is a year old, a SLW that is 2.....I do have the Blue wheaten ameraucana trio but would like them to go together.

Also have a confused broody FBCM that gets up from one nest and goes back to a different nest....Anyone interested?

I am not sure where you are but I am in Benson and am not able to drive....let me know if you are interested.
That FBCM sounds like mine that went broody, she was fickle, kept moving nest boxes, so I finally put her in a cage to break her, she was driving me and everyone else crazy, lol I would be interested in her, but don't know if any chickentrains are coming this way in the near future??

Look! Or, you may not want to be tempted..so don't look...this is free shipping until 2:30 EST today.http://www.meyerhatchery.com/produc...rd_prodone_filter=PRODUCT_ID = 'APRS'&AID=103

Stinkers sent this straight to my e-mail..so if I had to look, you have to look. :)

I KNOW!!! I got that email too and was seriously tempted... I deleted it before the temptation got too strong, haha

Corvidae, I'm so glad that Expedee pulled through surgery ok. I hope she feels better soon and can come home.

Sundance, I was quite close to Corinne. I could've gone there on my chicken adventures today.

Tonight I picked up my cute little cockerel, Joybells' swedish flower hens and Desert's wheaten ameraucanas. Desert, you'll have to get in touch with my so we can arrange to get these cute little guys to you.

Forgot to mention, Sillycmoy, I can't even believe the conditions they were keeping those poor chicks in. That is just wretched. I'm so glad you were able to rescue them. It'd be really cool if you got some gorgeous marans hens out of the deal. That would be good karma for you.

YAY!!!! I hope you like him, I think he is the better quality of the 2, but when Lisa said he was CROWING?? WTHeck?? He's not even 3 months old yet, sheesh!!

Corvidea... so glad to hear your cat is ok,

Joy... can't wait for you to get your chickies...

I suspect he won't crow again for a while- with two roosters in the big pen with him, he'll probably want to be under the radar til he's bigger. If he's smart, that's what he'll do anyway. Tonight, he was trying to perch on the high perch (about 4.5' high), and accidentally landed on my BLRW. He was trying to perch ON her. She didn't much like that, oddly enough. I moved him to the side of her, and he settled right in.

Desert, I could definitely meet you in T-ville as well. I have to warn you, my timeframe is extremely limited- I am going with my mom and grandma to a water conservation/planting class that we signed up for a couple months ago. It starts at 6pm in West Jordan. After that class, I have to go meet with a client in WJ to coach her on staging her home before we put it on the market. So, I'm thinking we'd have to meet at the same house as before, but right around 5:30 so I'll have time to swing by Joybells' dad's house and make it to the class on time.

Just cleaned everyone out, and took some pictures of the new babies. Any ideas what they might be. Was told they were all blue or dark brown eggs, and that most of the blue ones didn't make it. They are all so different except for the black ones, they all look pretty much the same. I thought I got all of them, but most have missed one. They are so extremely happy tonight. They have seemed really scared all day, but after bedding change, they have all been running around scratching up all the bedding every where and rolling around in it. At least they seem much happier tonight. #1, blackish legs down to the toes #2 One one with puffy checks, dark green/blackish legs, EE? #3, does have a white spot on the head, probably a Roo, yellow legs #4 Does have black feathers on the bottom part of the wings. #5, Black legs down to the toes. #6 greenish legs down to the toes
My guess would be OE's. given they came from dark brown and blue eggs, it makes sense. Also, the black and white ones look like my marans chicks, minus the feathered legs.

At first I thought Maran too, would be nice to get another Maran, but then again who knows. The one for sure has puffy chicks, the white one is like the odd ball out. Well just have to wait and watch them all grow up.

No one tell my husband, but I saved 7 more chicks today. I should have taken a picture of these poor babies before I gave them a bath. I went to a daycare today to drop off a lunch for my friends son, she forgot to take his backpack today. And when I went in, he had to show us his chicks, since he knew we had chicks. OMG, they were in the most horrifying situation. Their water was so full of poop that it was all the way up into the quart jar, I think it was totally all brown. She said she thought they were eating a laying feed, from what she was told (didn't look like chick mash or pellets to me), huge pellets small dish full of poop as well, and every chick was completely caked with poop, shavings, what looked like left over egg goop, there was barely any feathers that wasn't glued to there bodies with junk. I said to the teacher, what are you planning on doing with these chicks. I really wanted to say WTH are you doing to these babies. She said she was trying to find a parent to take them. I was like I can take them right now. She said perfect, gave me a box, and out we went.

I felt so bad, but I fully had to give each one a complete bath, and it took almost 10 minutes of soaking and gentle rubbing to get everything off of them. Seriously almost 1 1/2 hrs giving them all a bath. I hope that was okay to even give them a bath, I didn't know what else to do with them. So I have no idea what they are. I did ask her, and she didn't know, but I did ask her the egg color. She said that they were all blue or dark brown, she said that most that came out of the blue eggs didn't make it, so I have know idea how many they started with. After giving them a bath, one does have puffy cheeks like my EEs, and then 3 look like a Maran. I have one yellow with a black feather on its wing, and then a brownish one. At least they are all sitting under a 250 watt heat light right now, and they are starting to fluff out. Poor babies.

Hopefully my sister was serious when she said that she was going to take a few of my chicks when she comes out next week. Because I for sure have enough chicks to share now. She has an acre out in Rio Rancho New Mexico, and she was talking about getting chickens before I even got chickens. And she will most likely take my Roo :D since she can have Roosters.

I will have to post photos when they all dry up, to see what you guys think of these babies.
Hi Silly

You are such a good person!!! The chicks were lucky to have you show up when you did!!!

And mums the word.... I won't mention to anyone about the new chicks...LOL!!

Update on Expedee the cat: He was doing better this morning, with his labs looking more stable and him up trying to play with the drip on his IV, so they went ahead and did the surgery. He had a huge rupture in the abdominal muscles, which is actually good. Much easier to put the interstines back in through a large hole rather than a small one. He is all sewn up and recovering pretty well. We went to see him again tonight before I came in to work and, while he was obviously having some pain, he still purred at the boys and seemed rather comforted that they were there. They had to take him off the pain meds yesterday because he was having some serious adverse reactions to whatever they were giving him. They've started a different one post-op and, hopefully, that will keep him comfortable. Vet says if all goes well, he can come home tomorrow or the next day.

I feel bad for my chickens--haven't had any time to do more than throw food and water in their coops. I'm not even sure if we got eggs collected today.
I am so very happy to hear it!!

He still doesn't know, he never goes over in the loft to check on the chicks. I'm really shocked that my 5 year old never said anything to him about it. She's only checked on them about 20 times today. Hopefully it stops raining soon, and the 4 week olds can go outside in the grow out pen, with a mini coop during the day, so that way it won't be so many in the house. LOL

brian, do you want to get the older hens?  You could come today.  My two RIR that are at point of lay were just in the coop again.  They should be laying for me any time now. I forgot to mention, I do have a NN .. white, that is about 6 weeks old that I can let go too.  White with black in the feathering.
Tell me a good time.  We are here.
thank you cynthia for the RIR's. My first hend and I'm very excited about having them. They are extremely sweet and seem to like the new coops and run. Whenever the blue EE is up for grabs let me know she was a beauty! They all were. It was really nice to meet you and your husband today:)

If need be and the time doesn't work you can use my house as a drop off pick up point.

good grief end up in UNI for a week and two of my chicks are looking male and I'm really wanting to keep them because one of them is my blue splash wyandotte

. not to mention how long it is going to take to get caught up on here. I'm tempted to try and have the roos be house birds but that will depend on noise. will post pics latter once the camera is charged.

Nice meeting you brian..putting up our photos today sometime. And, I think I'll post that funny one, with my hair addition, and your great silly smile. :) Those are red sex links. The RIR's are the two that I have that are point of lay. The ones you got, do have RIR in them, but they are not pure RIR. They are considered one of the best layers out there. Ask birdman, he will tell you that the black sex link are also one of the best egg layers out there.
Now, I'm waiting to hear when they lay for you. Will be interesting. And, to see your nice setup. Since they have each other, they should get comfortable with their surrounding pretty quick. They aren't used to straw in the nest boxes. I thought about telling you that after you let..they are used to the shavings, like I put in your box. We'll see if they will go to the next boxes to lay. Thinking they will. :)
