Utah!

So put straw down in just the run area?  Its 8 feet by almost 10 feet with the coop inside, and they can go under the coop too.  I just didn't know what I could put in there to help with the smell, not sure if its because its wet. Because I cleaned out the coop on Sunday, and it didn't smell at all.   I did buy Oxine, but I haven't used it yet, will that help with the smell if I spray it on the ground. I got busy, so I need to go read through to see how to mix it up.

Yes, exactly. I started with three flakes, which was WAY too much. Smell is gone and it is easy to clean. Absorbs the mud and poop and makes great compost. I clean and add a flake about once a month since February, when we had a bit of a thaw and I couldn't figure out what else to do.

Where is the best place to buy straw? I use shavings in the coop, but thought I would put straw in the nest boxes when they are starting to lay. We have a while, the oldest is 8 weeks old. haha!

Do you Oxine? I need to figure out how to mix it to spray out the coop and the water dishes, and then how much to leave in the water, and can I spray the dirt in the run with it too?

Anyone interested in a Cochin Roo? At least I think he is a Cochin, this is my best guess. Hatched March 25th, so he is 9 weeks old. I'm in Cedar Hills, but I do go to Bluffdale on Monday nights and I can bring him up if anyone is interested in him.

I buy mine at IFA. Not sure where else to go. I don't oxine, but I have been thinking about it.

I will have to go get some from IFA tomorrow, I'm sure my Hubby will love that. He already said he didn't want shavings all over the place. haha! My side yard and under my deck have gone to the chickens. :D

How do you store it? Just under a tarp? I'm guessing you don't want it to get wet, and how often do you fully change it out? Sorry for all the questions.

I have only been doing a full change out once a month. It was a new idea to me when I tried it, but I had straw because I use it in the nesting boxes. It worked super well. I have a chicken table that the straw is on and the bale is wrapped in a tarp. My other chicken supplies are under the table. I'm not sure how you're supposed to store it, but I know you should try to prevent it from getting wet so it doesn't get moldy. I also put some in a large plastic trash can so I can move it around the yard better...

The two girls I hatched from Sundance's eggs went to their new home just now. Sweet girls. I veted the potential owners well, they went to an old friend of mine. The brother stayed behind. Poor boys, no one wants them, lol. I wish I could find a good home for him, he is such a neat looking boy!
