Utah!

My broody transplant 1/2 worked. The frizzle broody wanted nothing to do with any chicks or chuckers however the little tiny tiny Serama girl was thrilled and is trying to raise everything. the chuckers burrow under her when she calls the chiks climb on top of her because they are all two big to fit under her. She is so happy and clucks all over. I kind or wore my self out the last two days, so I am going to plant my but down and rest for a day or two. I wish it would quit raining so I could go out and enjoy my yard.

Hey guys,

How's it going? I'm Kyle, and i am out of Orem.

I love this site!

I live in Spanish Fork. We are pretty close! Yaay, I am getting more chicken people close to me. I get to watch all of you north of me have a blast with meeting up and trading, and buying. Now, maybe we can have some fun down this way in Utah County!

Can you have roosters Kylel? We love to know who may want roosters. Or, who may have fertile eggs.

Unfortunately can't but i do get plenty of fertile eggs to hatch. I am hatching out about 50 chicks in about a week.

What breeds do you have down there? I grew up in Santaquin.

that sounds awesome! I would love to see that when I come over. What days will you and ED be home so I can help out?

Lilwanis, I am so sorry about the news about your grandmother. I'd be devastated.

When my run gets goopy and muddy, I either use straw, hay, grass clippings, or sand. Whatever I can actually get my hands on easily at the moment.

Welcome Kyle.

Sundancen, you need to make sure that you don't push yourself too hard- you don't want to end up in the hospital again. I need to take a picture of your broody hen. She tries so hard to get her babies under her at night, except that they're all about the same size as her now, so it isn't going so well. It's kind of funny, but sweet at the same time.

Silly,
I do spray Oxine on the ground. It disinfects and kills the bacteria causing the odor. It causes a fresh smell so maybe it does help.
How do you mix it for cleaning, I have the unactivated, and do you put it in their water too? I think I might try out the straw, but and just spread it around the run area and under the coop. I just don't want the smell, I really don't care if its muddy. The coop is actually clean and doesn't smell its the dang dirt, but then again, they have been stuck in the run for 3 weeks, so now with them getting out everyday it should be much better.

Personally i buy my straw from local growers. If i cant find one then i ask were it came from to make sure the money stays in the community. I buy my wood chips at the IFA in AF. They buy it from a local company in Lehi. In the fall you can find it sold by local FFA groups. Its great to buy it from the kids to help with their school programs. Call your local school and talk to the FFA programs.
I looked on KSL for local straw, and no one is even close. I guess I can get some from IFA, I do need to get more shavings anyways. I just don't want the run area/dirt to smell when it gets wet, I've never noticed any odor until today with all the rain. And the coop is clean, I change the shavings fully out every week, so its way clean in there. I do want to mix up the Oxine and try spraying out the coop, and the dirt in the run.

You are dedicated. I have been doing the deep litter method. It doesn't smell bad and comes out pre composted, but I only do a full clean out every three months.
