Utah!

Sphinx--the one I have made is:
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon good quality vanilla
1 2# bag powdered sugar

It works ok. It rolls out ok but tastes pretty good. I have had problems with it cracking a few times and having to re-roll it out. I have not seen the marshmallow one, will have to try it! Yum! I would love to try a new recipe for it.

Sundance, what kind of eggs are they ? SIlkies? The rain keeps barely missing us, we get the black skies and wind then I can see it move south of us. Hardly any rain, just little sprinkles. If we are going to have the bluster I wish we could have the rain with it! We don't have sprinklers so hand watering my yard is a big chore, would love a little help. Ya hear me up there?! Gah!

Got our new run built last night for the SG/Silkies. DH is hammering the wire on right now. Excited to have my girls new home built! I think we are about to call it quits for this year.

My chickens, of the big girls over 1 yr old (2o+) I have 8 that are completely not laying for a few weeks now. A few broody, a few molting, and a few have no reason at all. What the heck! Lord knows it is not lack of treats of fresh grass..their diet is good...maybe the dark colored tarp I put on their roof for shade is making it too dark? I have no idea. I have more laying age chickens, and less eggs, than ever. That is backwards.

Sundance, nope. Haven't figured out what was going on with the eggs. I am getting worried about the egg that hasn't hatched yet.

Lisa, I wonder if it could be from the heat? Some of my girls have gone on a mostly-strike, and I'm pretty sure it's the heat. They get plenty of food, water, treats, grass, and shade, but I still see a lot of panting out there, no matter what I do. And may I add on the whole egg layer to eggs ratio................Welcome to my world

Oh goodness, I just remembered that I have 12+ pages I need to go back and read.

lisa i bet its the heat. or maybe there is a stash of eggs somewhere that you do not know about? i say you decorate your coop and run with kfc buckets, it would give them a hint lol. hey red we gotta figure out a time for you to come get a mint start if you still want some. been busy as of late as i was helping my sis and her husband find a house, moving them and then in the last week two of my sisters each had baby boys :D then i also had a very tricky sprinkler repair job that took up a lot of time.

Alright I have a huge list of birds that i have available let me know if anyone is interested in any of them

Sara, really cute cake! Did you buy or make your fondant?

Lisa, when you made yours, was it the marshmallow fondant recipe? That's what I make. I don't really like to eat it much, but I've noticed most people do eat it when I make a cake with it.

Poorpitifulbear, that is really interesting that you came across a native american. Did the archeologist find anything else?

Sundance, I want to hear about your ghost tour? Was it worth the money? Have any haunting experiences?

Just some arrow heads. That was in the 70s you know I don't even know if my dad called the police. He just call an archeologist friend of ours and he finished the dig. I don't even know what became of the bones. It funny what you remember. That was in Ignacio California.

Lisa, here's the instructions I use for fondant: http://whatscookingamerica.net/PegW/Fondant.htm It rolls out really nicely and is incredibly easy to make.
Thanks for the link, I will definitely try it ;) ~! Uh oh. Cal ranch has chicks again. Just came home empty handed after 1 1/2 hours of sitting there trying to rationalize why the cute fluffy one in the corner could not come home with me  BUT we are on the big tight budget this week, and we went to Walmart and they had 9mm ammo back in stock and my DH did not get any, which is a huge deal so I felt so guilty there was no way I could buy chicks. Not after he walked away from the ammo lol! It has been very VERY hard to find since all the gun law business started.

It was really corney. not for the serious ghost hunter but it was fun to watch my grandsonn and it made him really happy. I might go on an overnight hunt if I get feeling better

he walked away from ammo? wow! i have had the best luck finding 9mm at cal ranch, the one here does not put it on the shelf so much so you have to ask them. and i go to cabelas too, they get some in almost daily but it does sell out fast. i find going during the week is best. and the thing about cabelas is they do not raise their prices like most places so that is one reason i support them so much. i got a very nice deal on some hallow point 9mm last week and they actually had a few different brands to chose from. i like keeping all the ammo i can on hand so if i find it and its in the budget i buy it. to me ammo means several things such as food, fun, protection and its a very good investment :)

Casa, my girls are really slow right now too!!! I know the BOs are mad 'cause they should have already been moved into their new coop/run however the heat has me slow too, thus the run isn't finished. The B Hollands usually give me an egg daily... nope, 2 eggs for 5 girls each day. The Wels are pretty good at 3 daily for 5 girls but I'm getting 2 every other day if I'm lucky. The B Austras normally fill my 'eating egg' orders with over a dozen daily however I'm getting about 4. The rest are almost on total strike however I just found a stash of 4 eggs in the hay. Not many!! Has to be the weather!!! Days hot and humid with heavy thunder storms. Nights have been down right chilly!! UGH!!!
