Utah!

Oh, Brian, that is absolutely awful. I am so sorry for your loss. How do they know it was a fox?

Lilwanis, that's terrible that you can't have roosters. How did you find this out?  This is going to sound a little crazy (well, crazy to anyone but you guys), but my biggest pause from moving from this house that is waaaaaay too small for our family is that odds are, our next house will be someplace I can't have roosters. And the idea of giving up my roosters is abhorrent. I totally get your devastation.

A neighbor called animal control. I am going to see what I can do in the way of permits, but am not feeling hopeful. Rumor has it that others have roosters in my immediate area, with a permit, I doubt it, but worth looking into. There are eight neighbors surrounding my backyard. I am so sad right now.

At least I'm not the only one with bad luck lately.

Stupid farm visitors are complaining about my broody hen. They say she's sick! Geez, the nerve of some people!

I'm worried that my Brahma hen will be disqualified so I'm going to wait until the State Fair.
I love showing chickens. c: But no one will ever come to the UFPA shows with me. xD

I hate not being able to have roosters. I'm going to have to sell mine once I turn 21, it sucks. >.< By the time I get my own land my hens will be too old to breed anymore. And even if they are I want to move to Washington and I might not be able to take them with me.

So very sorry to everyone with their little chicken problems. Lil, there is someone on KSL that has an ad out for trading in Roosters for a Pullet in Pleasant Grove, you might be able to try him, and I know there is an ad for someone in Taylorsville and Lehi that says they will take in Roosters for a farm. Good luck, I've re-homed 7 or maybe 8 now this year. And I hate seeing every single one of them go. I'm sure I have 2 more outside, my 2 Silkies, any takers. Brian if he gets his house in Spanish Fork is taking the Blue Splash, so I have the other little dude. He is very friendly and sweet. I might take my chances on keeping him until someone complains, not sure yet.

I'm trying to talk my hubby into letting me redo the whole chicken run, and take the whole thing out from under the deck, since we have a coop under there, and actually frame in a huge 12 foot by 10 foot chicken house. He thinks I'm nuts, but he was actually okay with the idea of it. I really think it would be easy to do, I already have it pretty much framed in, since I fully enclosed the run under the deck with chicken wire, so I could just put up plywood, and leave the floor dirt. Maybe next year project. I just want a farm. I miss my horses and my goat!

Lil..so sorry for the upset of all of your plans! What a sad thing to have to do. I do know of a gal that will take any unwanted chickens if you get down to where you can't find homes. Her name is Sandra. She's Hispanic, and sometimes her mother will answer the phone, so you have to say..for chickens, Sandra...and she gets it pretty quick. :) I'll p.m. you her number.

Lisa, speaking of roosters, man, if I could get a rooster like yours! He sounds wonderful..remind me again of the breed? And, people say chickens aren't smart.

my mother in law saw the fox take one of the chickens. Just picked them off 1 by 1. The officer I talked to told me the foxes have a bounty on them and I can take any measure necessary to get rid of the foxes. Now I have to start all over again.

Dwight is my Houdans rooster. He is a total love bug :) Very mellow, there is something about him that reminds me of a cat, i can't explain it.....when I hold him he just is so still and loves the attention so much. He really does not crow much anymore, just when I come outside he crows at me once or twice to say hi. The girls are OK....but he is the one that really makes me love the breed. He is not a ding-a-ling like the girls. But they are so friendly, I can't complain ;)

The other roo I have is Vinnie the SG. He is not as mellow he has become more high strung...yells alot, mates constantly (all day long) he is always stamping his feet everytime a girl comes near him. He is an awful lot of fun, very entertaining, but I don't adore him like I adore the Houdan roo. I can't hold Vinnie, he is always flapping and trying to chase the girls. And he screeches all morning long until about noon. Little stinker. Cute and fluffy and rowdy but a little stinker. I might try keeping a different SG male if he keeps being all crazy. It is like he has "small-dog" syndrome lol

Lilwanis--I am TOTALLY bummed out for you right now. Anyway your property has any grandfathered in animal rights? It seemed to be situated like it was there first then the subdivision came in and built all those homes near you...all that land right around it like a little island. It would be worth checking into? I sure hope something works out.

Finally some great news!!! I talked to the property manager and I got the house:)
