oh my I'm so jealous lol. They are super cute!

Karen, Brian...I am only keeping a couple--I have lots of these hatching over the next week or two :)

The other two white ones that just hatched are paint also.!

I cannot use any of these for breeding so they would be cute pets for anyone wanting any. Some have a tiny fifth toe on one foot like the SG. I think that it is kinda cute though lol.

So far I have three paints with pink skin like NN, and the black one that looks more SG.

2 more whites pipped, can't tell if spots yet :) It is looking like it but not positive.

I have 20 more eggs hatching next week, it is looking like the white is dominant so there should be quite a few if anybody wants some. Who does not want a naked neck polka dotted critter with funky toes? haha :D Blujems let me know if Jess wants any. Would not work for showing, but still cute, she is welcome to whatever she wants when they all get done hatching. Maybe there will be more black skinned ones in the next batch, so far just one.

This one is from the Black Marans mom and the paint roo. You would never know there was Marans in there would ya?? Wonder if it will lay a darker brown egg? Probably not because it will crow instead with my luck

I had a BR with lice last week....the underbelly plumage had all the fuzz stuck to the feather shafts, I dipped them in the poultry protector then I oiled the belly area for good measure. Yuck! I hope no others get them. That is a lot of chickens to de-bug. Christina, I sure hope yours don't give you a headache--you have lots and lots! Icky.
What kind of oil are you using Casa?? I think my problem was handled but just want to be prepared.

Hi all! We passed the inspection today. Bitter sweet. DH stayed there so that he could be there when they were going through our property. He said that the AC officer told him it was a different house from what I had said before. Not one we suspected at all. I am going to have to talk to him about that. Did she actually tell him? Weird. All my chickens are permanent residents now. I guess if I move my one coop, they will go ahead with the 25 bird permit. Ironically, it is not the "problem" coop that needs to be moved. The original one, the one that looks like a house, is too close to our house. They have plenty of space between the neighbors and the coop. Debating whether or not to move the coops. Since I can't raise them, I don't know that I really need more of them. I do still have the two wheaten ameraucana boys. They don't crow. They do a long chirp sometimes, I wonder if that's it for them? Part of me feels a bit discouraged because my founding stock just got wiped out. I can't decide if I will want to/be able to start over again. I was so excited for this. To be this close to adult birds and have it all taken away... Ah well. Time heals.

I am convinced that I need a new home. I have wanted more space for years (ever since I first moved in with my hubby and discovered that plenty of room for a family of five is tight for a family of eight, then we added another!), but this just seals the deal for me. I have been searching for property and homes. Just need to figure out what can go where. A home with eight acres does me no good if I still can't keep livestock. Also need to find a space that is a reasonable driving distance for both DH and myself to get to work. We work at opposite ends of the valley so either way, at least one of us will have a commute. Hopefully we don't both end up adding hours to our drive. I keep hoping that DH will come to me with something that he is excited about, but so far, he just kinda shrugs at everything I show him. The two of us are usually so united in everything that I feel really lonely with this.

I really am feeling better, I am sorry to keep coming on here so negative. Better but not best I guess

You can vent here. We all know the feeling of having to let go of some of our 'kids'... very painful and emotional!!

Canola Oil or Olive oil. Think the point is they smother so any oil should work! Pics! yes! Silly--Of course! I will get them all hatched and let you know what there is. Have 5 paints so far! From 2 different moms--seems to be the boy has some strong genes. Love it. ! Some cute polka dots going on in that brooder. Big dots. Cynthia, waiting to hear how your hatching is going!

Think my DH has had a break through with the poultry!!!
yesss.gif
Yesterday he offered to help with the second brooder

, and he actually told the juveniles which were running around underfoot, "Come on little people, move out of the way". Little people?

I asked if he had indeed referred to the young chickens as 'little people' and he admitted he did, and commented that they were just like his grand kids, out of control...LOL.

hahaha, I love it, Little People! My DH had a break few a few weeks ago when I told him my coops just wasn't big enough for all my girls, and that I was afraid of the upcoming winter. So he helped me box in the full run enclosure so we now have a 9 ft by 12 ft coop, now if I can just get him to help me put on the roof. HAHAHA, he's been super busy, and of course its not raining or anything, and none of the girls are sleeping in there yet. But I was totally shocked when he said, "Well I guess we need to do something about the upcoming winter, we can't have frozen chicks outside, and off to the hardware store he went.

Love seeing Cynthia and Lisa's new babies. They look like they are going to be incredible when they fluff out.

Silly, maybe if I took you guys out and showed you some of the options, he'd feel better about moving? I'm glad it's all resolved, but sad it wasn't resolved the way you wanted it to be.

Desert, I rub oil on them down to their skin, usually canola, but I've also used olive oil. And yes - I'm having a really hard time with the thought of letting my babies go, though. Particularly my Wyandotte sisters that I got from Lisa. If anyone want them, let me know. One blue, one black. Both are very sweet, especially Angel. I want them to go together. I wouldn't part with them until the one hen has weaned off her chick, though.

I also have my blue Ameraucana. She's purebred and lays a nice blue-green egg. It's kind of small, but she is such a sweet girl. If no one wants her for breeding, she will be going to my neighbor with my RIR, BR, and Barnevelder. I'm not sure what to do about my Delaware and her BSL buddy. They are teenagers now. I don't want to rehome them, but I told my BF that I was going to downsize and focus on the Icelandics. And I have my Exchequer Leghorn and my SBEL..........they are going to be so hard to let go. If I can even let them go. My Leghorn is a good layer and very smart. She's also an escape artist. And there's my OE, who is currently broody, so it would be a bit before I can let her go, too. She's a big girl - half BO, half EE. She lays the pretty speckled olive eggs I have shown on here before. Here's one of her eggs:

So, now that I've given a sample of some of my flock, I'd just like to say one thing:

They are super cute! The black one got that black gene from the Paint. Nice, a pure black. But, I am loving those paints! Look at that nice feathering on the neck in that last picture. I just love NN and SG babies!
