Utah!

Does anyone have in feelings about buy chicks in Utah/ Salt Lake Valley Area? I mean in terms or health and such. What are your opinions on buys from Cal-Ranch or IFA? Or is it better to go through a local hatchery or ordering them online? If so what online source to use? I found one hatchery, I think it was called SunnyBrooke Farms. But I saw some really bad reviews of them saying all their birds were infested and sickly. Any thoughts??

Cute babies acemario!!!!

SunnyBrooke isn't a hatchery... At least I don't think so. She raises a couple varieties but orders the rest from hatcheries. I've gotten birds from her with no problem.

Never gotten birds from Cal Ranch, IFA is decent I guess... XD I always prefer breeders personally, but you might try Meyers, they do small orders and I approve of them overall.

I just picked up 2 LF barred Cochin today. The ifa in american fork has a lot of different breeds. The had blue, buff, and barred Lf Cochins. They also have a large selection of bantams. Im lucky i left with only 2 chicks.

I have just hatched LF cochin...heritage breeds.

A blue, a buff, and white chipmunk, and a yellow chipmunk markings. They are really feathered nicely on the legs and feet.

I didn't know that American Fork had chicks. Did you see any Red or Buff Sexlinks? I want to get a couple started out there.

I buy from Cal Ranch, no problems out here in Spanish Fork..except if they get too many to sell..and that happened at a lot of places year before last.

I have Jumbo Coturnix Quail. Probably the same thing, Most that I see for sale are jumbo. I actually sent some to a guy over by you named Sean, and he said there were folks with those out your way....

If that is what they are, you just incubate like normal, except they hatch earlier, day 16 or 17, and so you want to lockdown by the 14th day at the latest, and keep the humidity a little higher than for chicken eggs, 35-45 percent has worked for me through incubation, then 65+ at lockdown. They get stuck in the shell easily if the humidity drops from opening the bator, so I let mine all run together for a day in the bator before opening up. I read that somewhere, and it really is best to leave them be. Good luck!

Thanks Lisa for the info, and the link!!

My hatchings normally do better at a high humidity and a lower temp, so that works well with my regular conditions. Yea, they're really popular out this way, I guess. I've had several people ask about them after I announced the Grand Opening. Since I really don't have room for them, they'll be going to those who have shown interest. Lisa, what is the going price on them?

Again, thanks!!

They didn't have any when I was there, there was a sign saying that the Sexlinks were sold out, but they were getting 100 in next week. But I didn't notice the date, because I was trying to calming walk away fast!

Gary, I think my Silkies are FINALLY laying. Or it could be my almost one year old Cochin Mix or JB. But I'm getting a tiny white/tanish egg every day now. So excited. With my luck they will go broody now, and I will be asking for a few eggs.

BTW…Anyone on here interested in a few chicks. Now since I took in the Serama/Silkie mixes, I'm for sure going to get rid of a few of them in the next week or so. I'm going to Vegas for 3 days with Girl Scouts, and I'm already worried as it is to leave my 3 year old, dogs, chickens, and the chicks with my husband to babysit. So I figured to get rid of a few it will be less of a mess for him to clean up everyday.

Black Naked Neck/Delaware Mix. Solid Black right now, and is a naked neck. 6 days old
Naked Neck/Cuckoo Maran Mix. Dark Chocolate Chipmunk right now. Was out a very dark chocolate egg. 6 days old
2 or 3 of the Serama/Silkie Chicks. They are all white with black chipmunk stripes. They are getting wing feathers in and they are barred. 8-9 days old.

Let me get my camera out and take some photos.
