I'm so sorry to hear that sad news. I'm so new to chickens. Ours will start laying eggs in the next 6 weeks. Had them since about 2 weeks old. Wish I could help. I hope you find some hens soon. I would be so sad if something happened to our girls. Thankfully our dog leaves them alone. She sniffed one the other day and got pecked

The dogs behind us on the other hand scare me and I pray the girls never get over the fence.

If you look back a page or two in this thread you will see someone giving away or selling cheaply some EE Pullets that would be close to laying. Maybe 4 or 6 more weeks.

Hey everyone I have two ducks that I need to rehome. We raised four ducklings from a few days old and are only keeping two so two have to go. They are ten weeks old this week and full grown more or less. I believe they are drakes based on voice sexing but it'll be another four weeks till you can verify based on drake feathers. I have a Rouen and a Cayaga. These are very friendly ducks as we handled them from babies. They eat lettuce and treats out of my hands and are very quiet. PM or e-mail me at zarigia at gmail dot com if interested. I'm not looking to get much out of them - I'd love to trade for a laying hen or two for the two ducks but will let them go for free otherwise to a good home. Let me know if interested - I'm in Orem.

so this afternoon my grandma called and told me my step-grandpa is bringing me a chicken over... yeah what a surprise but am not to sure i am happy about it. first let me say he is a middle eastern immigrant so they do things a little different. so he hands me this box with one baby chick inside that is maybe a week old. some family member of his got 2 chicks as a gift from another family member and they do not know much about some things in life and their cat got one so they wanted to find a new home for the one left and my step-grandpa brought it to me and said just throw the chick in with my flock. i do have a broody hen but that did not work so it looks like my mom may want to keep it and that is fine with me because looking at the box it had the words "1 red, 1 buff" so it looks like i have a buff orp and its a breed i want but i did not want to get one yet and did not want a chick but more of a older one but i guess i will just have to go with it. i am so stressed now

i am just happy i made the coop so it can hold more birds than i have.

i so did not need this in life now!

its not a easy thing and this is the first time i have dealt with a chick but i am doing okay i think. its a hard situation but i just could not say no. my mom fell in love with her so i will keep her. i just hope she is a she
