$10 on KSL.

Well, *I* am not going to turn it into an incubator. I'm going to leave that to my mechanical engineer husband.

Yeah, I'm really excited about the glass front.

It supposedly turns on, but doesn't chill. I have promised dh that if it can be repaired inexpensively, he can repair and then sell it, and then apply any profits to my incubator fund.

Second, question. When Izzy was alive one of my free range roosters took a shine to her and started living in the big girls coop, sleeping outside with her. After she was gone he would continue to sleep alone up in the rafter above the coop door, guarding. When it first started getting cold I locked him in the coop one night to teach him it was ok in there. The last two months I had a temp job and worked all days but 2, 10-14 hr days. My family took over their care.

Last night I get home and my daughter said she found him dead. He was at the base of the ladder, next to a wall and so it didn't appear he froze and just dropped off the rafter. Apparently he has never taken to going inside the coop but was protected from the elements. His comb wasn't black or even tipped black. He was a beatiful OEB. Wildish but would always wait for me in the mornings and come running if I called him (Mr. Golden). My heart's just broke that he died. First the 2 horses, then Betsy, then Izzy, now him. 2011 sure has been a doozy, hope 2012 is better.

Any ideas of why he went and joined Izzy? No sign of trauma, appeared healthy. Being cold (and stiff) I couldn't inspect all but he appeared ok. We did notice he always let the ladies eat first, I wondered if he guarded so much that he deprived himself?

He was the best roo, didn't crow too much, didn't beat up the girls, awesome protector, not mean. What a bummer.

Sorry for such a downer on a holiday. I do hope everyone has a blessed Christmas.

Was he very old---could he have had a heart attack? My friend had a chicken that died from a heart attack, I did not even think that could happen. Hope 2012 gets better for you!
