So....my cute little blue Houdan mix chick----this is from my Houdans I got three yrs ago. If there was any doubt there were issues.....this one is getting cross beak. SERIOUSLY! I am so bummed. IT is the most gorgeous chick in the bunch. AND it came from the Houdan Hen but my frizzle silkie roo, no relation...and STILL....crossbeak again :/

Aw man! I wish I had the money to get you some Crevecours. I really think it would help with the genetic diversity. So sorry

so... not chicken related, but close enough Is there anywhere local that breeds miniature silver appleyard ducks? If not, is there a reputable online breeder of that breed, that anyone has had experience with?

Not miniatures, but I have seen them pop up for sale before on KSL. I want to say there were some in Lehi, and possibly Bountiful. The latter is more doubtful.

One of my Icee chicks can't walk. I've been giving it sugar water because it won't eat, and it's surviving okay, but I dunno.....usually if they won't eat, that's a bad sign

One of my ducks just drowned. I don't know what happened. They were outside playing in their pond and could get in and out just fine. I walked by and saw one of them with it's head in the water just floating. I grabbed him and tried blowing into his nostrils and CPR. He's gone

Brian--It's so crazy! I got a batch of live day old chicks from McMurray 3 years ago. There was high mortality...but otherwise the ones that lived were ok. Then I got a batch first of March, and again high mortality, but in addition the 4+ week olds started developing cross beak like crazy! Soooo I decided not to use them at all for breeding stock....then two eggs hatched that I had set from my older Houdans, and my silkie roo, And this is what happens to one of the chicks at 3 days old. Crazy!

if I come across any houdans would you like me to snag some for you?

Is there a good show for beginners? I would like T9 show my up and coming opringtons

start with the county fairs. The local show was the middle of March. Idaho has show the state fair in Sept and the big local show in Oct

Yesterday was a no fun day for me. I let my Ginger momma out with the babies and then quickly ran to the school to pick up my kiddos. Later when I went back to check on them, Ginger didn't come when I called. I knew something was wrong because she always comes when I call. I found her hiding behind the shed with four of the seven little ones under her. The other three were nowhere in sight. I still haven't been able to find them

. The worst part is it was the little barred rock and the two CCL pullets. I am so bummed!
