Definitely go to the farmers market Saturday morning, before noon or 1---I believe it is at the city hall this weekend (main street at about 2oo north)
I have this fear that my girls will start laying and I won't know if because they are hidden. I just opened up their nest boxes last night and put fresh straw in them.

It's not 100% yet, but I have a Tolbunt rooster and possibly a silkie rooster that I will need to rehome. The family member that we got them from may want them back, but I haven't heard back yet, so I am putting some feelers out there in case I do need to rehome them.
Here's the Tolbunt boy. He's a little older now. About 7 weeks. Very sweet.
And here is my silkie that people on the "what breed or gender is this" thread think is a roo. Also about 7 weeks.
If anyone is interested, please let me know. Again, this isn't a sure deal, but I want to make sure I have something lined up in case our family member doesn't want them.
Just remember it won't be a purebred GCM so the sexlinked boy chicks may carry some recessive traits from the BCM daddy and the next generation my not look GCM, or be black, etc.
Here was my last sexlink male from a GCM hen and a BCM roo...The pics were at dusk but you can still see it pretty much looks like a GCM
Sundance, I've always wanted a horse. You are soo lucky. Appys have always been one of my favorites.
I had 7 out of 8 silkie eggs go into lock down, got 6 babies. Here are a few photos. I bought some silkie eggs this time with the parents that don't have the big muff or beard. Her photos were so cute, and they could see! I want to be able to have a few walk around my back yard. I don't dare let the ones out that have all of that fluff, unless I cute around the eyes, so what's the point? They don't seem to mind the run they are in, but I thought I would give these a try. Not a bad hatch for shipped eggs.
There is always a Bubba as I call them, big burly one there. Haven't noticed a tiny tot yet...
that is what didn't make it, a really small egg.
I like this last one, not much of a muff and that face, is soo sweet looking! Can't tell in
this photo. Just the sweetest face.
Here are a couple of her photos of her birds. She does have one there with the fluff and puff..
then the bottom ones in this first photo are just young.
I love love this one above and just below.
Big boys. Guessing my Bubba looking one may look like this.
Thank you again! I'm so glad I found BYC. I've learned so much. Raising chickens for the first time and being a part of this community has been a great experience so far.
glad we can all be here to share and learn. we have all been there but yeah the grower mash would be best right now and it would be easier to eat for the young ones than the pellets. just make sure to check the tag to make sure its not medicated. i am not a fan of layer feed as i feel its better to just offer oyster shell free choice so they only take what they need. now i just feed whole grain when i did commercial feed i did the all flock and it was great

That's good to know Lisa. I didn't know how close they were in genetics and wondered if the GCM would be pure. I wouldn't want to cull a bunch of mutt looking Marans and I don't want to add mixes to others projects. Will I have the same problem with the BCM pullets (from the BCMxGCM) if they are bred back to the BCM cock?
