Utah!

I know ours was small, until last yr. That was one with the most chickens I've seen in a few yrs. People stopped putting chickens in because one guy kept winning with his little chickens. :) But, there were a lot this past yr. Hope there are again. Just talking to my DH...I think our fair is on now. What? Will have to look into this. Didn't know.

i think i got my welsummer in spring of 2012. she has been one of the most consistent layers i have ever had, its rare not to get a egg from her. little bit of a loud mouth but is funny. and she has a set of spurs that would make most roosters envious lol. her name is chatty cathy :) my first set of girls were hatched in fall of 2010 tho i did not pick them up until early the next year but the ones i have are still going strong as ever. i get eggs so big they dont fit in cartons

Are Welsummers known to be noisy? Mine is by far my noisiest hen. If we don't let them out very early in the morning she whines and cries like a puppy. :/ All my other hens are fairly quiet but she has to make some kind of noise all day long.

Can you have a Rooster? I have a boy Lavender baby. Had two hatch out of this batch, terrible! One didn't make it, the girl of course. I want to keep him for a while, maybe get some eggs from him in the future, but then, he will need to go.

Wyondottes are nice, they also only lay around 4 or 5 days a week. Believe it or not...mixed breeds are great! If you have something that is mixed with a color you like, you can get some pretty girls. Here is one, that came from an OE. My neighbor has them..she is a mix of a Wellie, and it looks like a wyondotte, but she doesn't have a wyondotte. ? She lays around 5 a week. So pretty. Roo was an EE.

Shucks, thought I had a better picture of her. Her body feathers are very pretty. That's the rooster I just placed. I have eggs in the bator from him, and quite a few from this girl are developing. :)
I actually don't have a rooter restriction where I live and am attempting to keep the Brahma that ended up being a rooster this year. I do have a noise restriction and he was testing it at 4am this morning.....

We don't have a rooster restriction in Logan either. I have a no crow collar on ours which does quiet him some but it's still annoying early in the morning. I've started bringing ours in to the garage nightly when I put the girls to bed and putting him in a travel carrier.

4am! yikes! I have a handful of roosters but luckily they don't start crowing at all until 6:30. I wonder if yours are getting some sort of light from the neighborhood that is getting them started.

Yeah, I have been leaving their window open quite a bit for ventilation and I think when I let the dogs out to potty when I get up it is disturbing him. Will have to close it tonight to see if that is what it is. He needs no points against him I am ready to let him be stew if he doesn't stop picking on my favorite hen for learning to breed.

Mine get going at about 4:30 right now....very annoying....and when there is a full moon my Marans roo will crow half the night. I have had to go out in the yard and get him at midnight or so and put him in the garage on those nights, its so noisy!

Looks like mine sleep in by comparison. Good thing since I'm on a 1/3rd acre and would probably get in a bit of trouble. I'm a little worried as it is.
