Utah!

My grandparents flew out from upstate NY to help me during fair week and my grandfather was a very busy man! My daughter talked him into building her a new chicken tractor for her bantams. He was able to get away with using mostly scraps we had left from building our coop extension earlier this summer.

Then he built this awesome tripod to hold my bucket nipple waterer. We had been using hooks hanging from the dog house that the previous tenants left but they broke from the weight. Then we tried plant shepherd hooks and they sort of worked. We just couldn't fill it up much or they bent to the ground. This tripod works fabulously

I also finally made pvc feeders that I bought supplies for months ago. Love these, too! Now my chickens are pretty low maintenance. We can feed and water from outside the coop and run which is great since the entire family will be back in school this fall.

And last but not least, here's my new babies from Lisa's Marans eggs. They just hatched yesterday. <3

Wow! Tell Grandpa, nice job! Cute chicks. :)

I have a lot of RIR's, and RSL's. Have all of the Sex Link's sold. Have Some RIR's if anyone is interested.

I will keep my ears open. My brother might be looking for some. How many do you have?

I'm also looking for 3 or 4 barred rock pullets if anyone has any available.

I had 9 hatch, and a lot are looking like girls! The neighbor wants a couple, and I want a couple, so there are a few girls left, and a couple of boys..not sure if he can have roosters. These are Heritage, will be a pretty dark color when grown, and the girls will lay longer than the hatchery birds. If he wants any boy Sex Links, I have a few of those. Of course! :D They are white.

He is deep in the city and can't have cockerels.

Please PM me how many pullets you might have and what you are asking for them. How old are they now?

Our kids have wanted one for a long time.

for you. Every time we buy EE pullets they end-up being strait run. Tired of rehoming and eating them and it's taking forever to get a descent amount of EE laying hens.

It's so true. Out of the four EE chicks I started with two were roosters.

bitsy, your baby is so cute. Where in the world did you find that shirt?? And who's big eyes did she get? Just darling.
Thanks :D I found the shirt at Walmart, but it must have been out for a while, because it was on the clearance rack, and there wasn't many left. As for the eyes, pretty sure not my side of the family lol! hubby has one niece with HUGE blue eyes, so maybe his side. :D I love her.... she's absolutely precious :D

They are only a few days old. Will get things settled with the neighbors and let you know. I only wing sex..and tails. There are some tails starting to show up on the RIR's already, and not on others. They grow so fast.

I was wondering the same thing. But does it depend on if the sire is single or double barred?

Not sure on how the single and double barring works, but my mom had a bunch of half-BR's hatch last year, and the head spot and light/dark barring color was pretty accurate for them, too. At first I thought I was wrong when I saw a bunch of chicks running around with big white spots in their heads and lighter barring, but nope - turned out to be lots of boys, just like I told her. So I think that that rule is probably a good way to go. Just my uneducated two cents.

Aww! I do, but it's too early for me :( I am thinking of getting another RIR in the Spring. I told DH no chicks until then.
