Utah!

Do you have any pictures of when it was a baby?

BR's can usually be sexed after hatching. Girls have a tighter head spot and darker legs.

My br chick this time has darker legs than my last two that ended up roo's. spot on its head feels similar to my others which has me slightly nervous. Ordered the br from mypetchicken.com. The chick is super sweet and friendly, so really hoping to keep it. : )

I'm thinking of getting more chicks next spring and would like to get buff orpingtons and Plymouth rock. Any other suggestions?
I love my B.O.'s they are by far my favorite chickens of my 4 varieties. I want Lavender Orps next since I love my Buffs so much. I have Light Brahmas, they are ok, I have EE's,- mine are still young but very skittish. I have Production Reds- GREAT layers but they are bossy biddies and make it almost impossible to add new members to the flock. My Buffs are not the most amazing layers, they lay about 4 eggs a week usually but they are so sweet, and easy going with newbies for the most part and not skittish.

those are great breeds. if you are not looking to breed them i have been very happy with my black sex links, they are a cross of rhode island reds and barred rocks, most mine have been super sweet and they lay like crazy. mine are a few years old now and still lay a lot and the eggs are huge. most my easter eggers have been sweet but not always good layers. leghorns are always good layers but burn out faster and are not good for meat if you want that. my austrolorp is still young but they are known to be great layers. my welsummer has been a good layer, even in winter and the eggs are speckled :)

@pjmillerboy9 I like my barred rock. She's curious and friendly and has worked up to laying huge tan eggs. If you can breed, barred rock hens with a black roo let you make sexlinks.

I also love my gold sexlink from IFA. She's layed an egg a day since she started laying (only missed 6 days in the past year) and is a sweet friendly bird.

Can you have a Rooster? I have a boy Lavender baby. Had two hatch out of this batch, terrible! One didn't make it, the girl of course. I want to keep him for a while, maybe get some eggs from him in the future, but then, he will need to go.

Wyondottes are nice, they also only lay around 4 or 5 days a week. Believe it or not...mixed breeds are great! If you have something that is mixed with a color you like, you can get some pretty girls. Here is one, that came from an OE. My neighbor has them..she is a mix of a Wellie, and it looks like a wyondotte, but she doesn't have a wyondotte. ? She lays around 5 a week. So pretty. Roo was an EE.

Shucks, thought I had a better picture of her. Her body feathers are very pretty. That's the rooster I just placed. I have eggs in the bator from him, and quite a few from this girl are developing. :)

I was really disappointed by the participation at the Salt lake County fair. Its really sad to see the chicken participation waining. I did really good. one of my Seramas was best in show the other Serama was reserve champion. I did a clinic for the 4H kids at the show about showmanship and show prep They were so grateful and cute. I really enjoyed them.
