Utah!

Rcstanley, thanks for the little giggle :) And thanks for the tip, birdman! Happily, DH says he sighted our awol duck for a moment this adternoon, so she must be hiding somewhere. If she's on eggs and has been holding out on me, I may not be so happy.....but at least she's still around :)

I just added two female Pekin ducks to my flock, and they are so loud! I'm on 1/3 acre in a neighborhood - what do you guys do for your neighbors when they have to listen to your noisy poultry? It seems like all poultry have noisy days or weeks (or hours :) They are so beautiful, but I am worried someone will complain. My other 6 ducks barely make a peep all day, so this is pretty new for us.

Jducour, we just pray that our neighbors are patient, lol! I'm sorry, I know that's terrible. It doesn't hurt to get on really good terms with them, either. Sometimes presents of eggs or fresh garden produce go a long way :)

My Peking is a boy, so it's not as bad here. I sure love seeing his fat little white shape waddling around in the yard.

Had our silver laced Wyandotte babies hatch in the last two days! There's been much excitement around our house.

We have three that I suspect are male from their feathers. Anyone interested in them? We're in West Jordan, so we aren't allowed to keep them.

Hello all! I haven't posted in awhile and went outside to take some pics of the girls for updates when I noticed something concerning. Ethel has a large lump on her head between her beak and eye. It is hard, almost crusty or scab like. If I had to guess I would say it seems like an access or impaction but I know zilch when it comes to chicken health. I've taken some pics to show. She has been eating and drinking well as far as I can tell and I don't believe this bump was there several days ago. She has always been more pale in the face than our other BR Lucy and her comb isn't as large either, though she is larger than Lucy overall. I'm not sure of their age, it was guessed that they were about 3-4 mo old when I got them 1 month ago. Any advice is appreciated!

And Lucy, for comparison.

My first thought was, bee sting? Our dog got it good this yr. Poor thing, her whole face was swollen. Actually, pretty sure it was a wasp..saw the wasp nest. Should have taken photos, but I was too caught up in getting the swelling down, she was having a hard time swallowing! A couple of doses of Benydryl, helped, then I just gave her a dose of prednisone. Really helped! Another dose at night, and the next morning, and she did well.

Can chickens have Benydryl..Prednosone?

Look at what a big help I was! I would say though, if it gets larger, or starts to ooz, I would be for pressing around the ozzing area to get the stuff out. Clean it out good, keep doing a nice clean rinse job for a couple of days. If, no difference in size after today..just wait and see what happens.
Let's hope it resolves itself!
Anyone else?
