Utah!

Yesterday, when I went to check on my "lumpy" hen, I noticed that the "scab" was already pulled back a bit so I took a closer look and saw what I thought was a splinter or something in the middle. Thinking this was the cause of the lump, I pulled the scab back only to discover that what I saw was simply the base (quill?) of a feather. Oops! Underneath the wound bed was wet and red, I still poked where I thought perhaps a pustule was, but no pus, barely even serous fluid. Washed with saline then applied triple antibiotic ointment to it. I've checked on it several times and repeated the saline and ointment. She still seems alert, eating and drinking well but the bump doesn't appear to be any smaller. Guess I will just watch her some more for any changes. Wishing I hadn't pulled back the scab in the first place as I just left her vulnerable to infection :(
sorry... don't mind me... in a weird mood... but YAY! I win! lol (I guessed maybe an ingrown feather)

Isn't today beautiful Utah!?! I decided to recreate one of my favorite duck picture today :)

Peeper and GingerSnap, 3 days old - and 7 months old.

Jducour, love the pictures! So cute :)

I found where my duck hen is sitting on a nest. The problem is that I don't know if she's on chicken eggs or duck eggs. Hmmm.....

One of my girls has been hiding a nest under our Brussels sprouts. If she had tried to nest this spring it would have been fine, but it is getting cold! No ducklings right now, sorry Rosa! :)

Had our silver laced Wyandotte babies hatch in the last two days! There's been much excitement around our house.

We have three that I suspect are male from their feathers. Anyone interested in them? We're in West Jordan, so we aren't allowed to keep them.
Super cute, congrats!

Yay, one of my Easter eggers finally laid a light blue egg. 24 weeks to the day.

The egg (along with the eggs from my gold sex link and barred rock):

The culprits (I think it was the one in the back):

I heard her in the egg box, then I turned around and she had layed in the middle of the wet run.
I love new colored eggs!

Good news though! New coop is in and much better suited to chicken keeping than our first one. The girls love it so far, as do I!

Congrats on the new setup!
