I live in roy and am very new to raising backyard chickens. From my understanding the city is currently working on an ordinance to allow them. What are people's feelings on the likelihood of this going through. I am currently raising some chick's in the hopes that everything will be sorted out before they go outside. How many of you are successful in keeping chickens within roy city, or is there simply too much backlash?

I have chickens in Roy, but I live on a lot zoned for them. I haven't had any problems, and know of some people who keep chickens "illegally" within Roy without trouble.

The next meeting regarding chickens in Roy is May 10. I think a large part of what will determine if chickens are allowed in Roy is the number of individuals that attend that meeting.

wow that is a lot for shipping! makes it about the same as amazon then because amazon has free shipping. have you used it before? i read to sweeten the water.

went to cal ranch. they have signs up asking people not to touch the chicks, they dont want sickness spreading. it was nice to see they are thinking about it.

yeah until you look at their birds and they have poopy nasty butts. I was mad at them today as so many of the chicks had poopy butts

yep ifa and cal ranch both had birds with poopy butts today. its sad. cal ranch especially as of late seems to be going down hill. the place is a bit of a mess for sure. of course they are changing the layout around in cal ranch so i get things are going to be messy while they do it but still its not fun. i will still shop there but i hope things change soon. it was riverton ifa and west jordan cal ranch that i went to. a few weeks back the smell of the chicks was overpowering when you walked in at cal ranch

1) keep him if you are allowed roosters. If you have lenient neighbors, you could try kenneling him at night and using a no crow collar. YMMV
2) sell him on KSL. I've had good luck this way. Keep in mind most roosters are bound for the dinner table, but so far my roosters have gone to places who want a rooster for their hens.
3) keep him until he crows then make chicken soup.
4) take him to one of the chicken rescue places that advertises on ksl. I don't know if they are legit.

I posted my Brahma rooster on ksl, with a price. I got a few biutes that didn't pan out but then a very nice woman answered my ad. He is now a happy bird with a harem of 30 or so hens and a 2nd rooster and has already produced some feather footed chicks in her flock. I was skeptical that he would end up being anything but dinner but he has a better home there than he did here.
edit: (He went for free since it was only a detterent for someone looking for a big pot of stew.)
