Utah!

Cynthia - thank you so much! Do you leave vents open or closed?

They will be EEs and hopefully a few Ameraucanas. I have a blue Ameraucana rooster in with my flock of EEs, Orps, SLW, one Marans and one black Ameraucana hen who lays a pretty blue. I would like to buy some Ameraucana eggs but wanted to experiment with mine first since they're free. And I'd like to know what the egg looks like that comes from a Marans/Amer cross hen. I set the eggs with the most color.

Blue eggs make me happy!
My bator has two vents. I leave one vent open, all the time..then, when in lock down, I open both.
Oooh, sounds like you are in for some pretty babies! Good luck, we all will be waiting on the report of babies, then of course, pictures!
Blue eggs make me smile. Blue/green eggs make me smile. Green eggs make me smile. Green eggs and ham make me very happy.

Went up to the land today (Duchesne) and checked in on that broody hen again. As far as I can tell, she's got about 18 eggs under her and she is extremely pissy about it! I moved all the other BLRW's to the next pen over after kicking the Freedom Rangers out, so now she has a pen to herself, but can still see all her flockmates. It would be lovely is she actually hatched out some of those chicks--at least those I wouldn't worry about having some freaking contagious disease! I don't even want to say that no more chicks have died, for fear of walking in The Room of Death!

Upside, there are BLRW chicks hatching in my incubator as we speak--6 out of 12 out and a bunch of other pips. Fortunately, these chicks or eggs have never been anywhere near The Room of Death, so as long as I keep them clear of there, should stay healthy and perky. Cute little buggers, and I finally have one splash in the group. Not that I want a splash, but I thought it odd that none of the other batches had any splash in them.

Thanks Elk. I'm sorry to hear about your roo. Lousy predators :tongue

I have some good news, though. The Marans has been found! And she IS setting! I'm so excited! I combed all over through that yard, and then today my boyfriend saw her walking around and watched where she went. She's hidden good. I don't dare move her, but the only way I can think to try and fence off the grass she's in is to sneak over there when she's up off the nest and hurry and put something up. I'm just so worried that something will come and get her.

I'm making a disclaimer now: If something gets my Marans and the eggs aren't hatched yet, I may cry and I will not be ashamed about it. And then I may possibly try to bribe anyone with an incubator to finish the eggs for me ASAP. :weee :barnie

EDIT:

wooo hooo that is awesome! hope she stays safe and is able to hatch them out! maybe build a hoop pen and drop it over her and stake it down? how many eggs does she have and are they all hers? edit: but then again if you fence her off it may draw something to her? maybe just leave her be and hope for the best?

Wow Red, she really is hidden well!

Donna, congrats on the new babies and pips! I'm kind of excited that you aren't getting many splash babies- my one most likely pullet is splash, so I'd love to get a darker pullet to join her.

EDIT:

That is cool. She is hidden pretty good. We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed. Now I don't remember where you live, which I need to know..if it isn't too far..and she is gone one day, heaven forbid..you know those eggs will be good for a long while..so you could bring them to me. I should have room. Do you have any idea how long she has been on them?

Red! So GLAD you found her, I cannot believe how well she is hidden! She must really want to get those babies to herself. Hope it all works out and she can hatch some out for you, that would be so fun!

Donna-I am also so glad you have some eggs hatching and will have healthy chicks again. Whew! Hopefully it is all cleared out. You will have to let us know if your seller responds to the negative feedback at all.....

Sphinx, glad you and your flock were ok in that storm, it was short but is was strong!

Soccer starts this week for us.....one kid playing, one dad coaching, one dad Refereeing, one daughter refereeing, I will be going all different directions all the time. In addition to 5 drill team practices each week, 1 grandaughter night each week, eggs hatching this next weekend, 8 kids to teach preschool to M-F, and a run to paint. Busy weeks ahead. Also my mom had her shoulder replaced this week and she lives alone, so I need to get to Idaho to visit her and help her out some. My sister lives by her and has been doing all the work, she needs a break :) I wanted to go up this weekend but we had birthday boy turn 12 and company from out of town. Whew! My chooks have been a bit ignored the last few days. My waterers and feeders keep looking like Cal ranch, I gotta stay on top of my farmer duties :)

Is anybody going to the Idaho chickenstock from here in Utah?

I have two different bators in lock down. Muttskies, and BBS Ameraucanas. The mixed have three EE eggs in that are a pretty green. I know Lisa..not looking for green. Well, you should see the blues that went into the second bator. I'm thinking you have seen some pretty blue eggs yourself by now. Anyway, that's the one that Red will want a blue Am. from Really pretty eggs. But oh, you know I am loving those olive green eggs. I may have to keep one that looks like a girl, even though that one black EE I have outside could lay a green egg, I don't remember any of them looking this green. This hen should be called an olive egger. Probably is what she is. Pretty girl with blue and buff. Puffy cheeks and all.

Cynthia, that would be great. I just hope it doesn't come to me needing to rescue eggs. I would guess that this is the third day she has been sitting on those eggs, since that's about how long she's been MIA, for the most part. I have a feeling that she started working on laying not long after that last coon attack, and now she's finally decided to set on them. I'm in West Valley, but my broody is out in Tooele. It's kind of aggravating that she is so far and there is so much at stake with a huge raccoon running around. I'm doing everything I can right now to help her, like leaving her hidden and making sure that the new trap birdman was kind enough to help me get is set up in a good spot. If that raccoon keeps coming around like I'm thinking it does, the trap is in a spot that it seems to frequent.

Okay okay, tangent aside, I think she's been on the nest for about three days now. I'm sure she's been on it for at least two. If something happens to her and I have to go get those eggs, I'll let you know and I will happily drive them down to you.

Cynthia sounds like you have some fun eggs going! Cannot wait to see what you get from your black girl. Still waiting on Shirley to lay. In and out of the nest all weekend... been squatting for a while now. 22 weeks old, anytime she could start. Should be olive, we will see! LaVerne will be a few weeks behind her at least. Her comb is just now starting to turn red---Shirley's did over a month ago. You are making me jealous again with your blue eggs. The ones I have in the bator are in between--bluish-greenish. Pretty. But still not the crazy blue egg I want :drool Someday!!!

Sphinx, my bigger lav got a lot pinker over the weekend.....:barnie I think it is getting time to start getting used to the idea of it living elsewhere :( :( :(
