Utah!

I would call him..a beautiful color! That's the fun part of owning an EE. You never know what color you will get. That's why RED is going to post pictures of her little EE as it grows..right Whitney??
Love that golden~is that a Wyondotte? And, those two frizzles..adorable!

Thanks, Cynthia. :) Yes, that is a GLW. She's calm and very sweet, and while she isn't keen on being picked up, she willingly jumps into my lap if I just sit with her. She's always the first one to roost at night and gets all big and puffy. :)

Hi!

I'm new to chickens and new to BYC. My husband brought home 8 little chicks two days ago and now I'm jumping into this whole chicken thing with great gusto. My kids and I are really enjoying those cute little fluff balls! I just have to keep them from enjoying the chickies too much. We lost one already to an over excited 4 year old who defied my orders to not touch them when I wasn't with him. So we are down to 7 but they all seem to be thriving. I don't know what breeds they are or their sex. I have a feeling that one of them is a cockerel but I really have no idea.

Anyway, we are in Pleasant Grove and really looking forward to fresh eggs and getting to know you all.

Sphinx, I vote for either a BR or a Sussex. I don't know what the Coronation variety looks like, though. The BR I had wasn't used to being handled (I got her from less-than-ideal conditions) but she was the sweetest thing, nonetheless. She never got huffy or aggressive in any way.

Blu, sweeeet babies! Aww! Babies are so fun to see. Thanks for sharing a picture with us!

Cynthia, c'mon, you should know by now that I'm a picture monster. Of COURSE I'll be getting pictures of that little one for you! And the others, as well. I still need to pick names for them. I'm starting to see their different personalities, and it's so fun. That little splash/blue is very calm and sweet. The EE is a drama queen and very loud when protesting. Oddly enough, the best thing I've found for her so far was to have a 4-yr-old handle her - gently, of course. The two blacks are so cute, one is very vocal and a little jumpy, the other is calmer and never actually says "cheep", it just makes little churring noises. Oh, it's so fun to have these little ones around.

Alright, I got some pictures of the cockerel-possibly-pullet, but it's late and I'm very tired, so I will have to post them tomorrow morning, sorry. The comb and wattles on that bird still say boy to me, but now I'm hoping that maybe it's just because it was crossed with another breed that normally has large features like that. Silly.

I'm in Spanish Fork, so finally...a chicken friend that isn't too far from me. :)

Where did you get your chicks? You will have to post pictures so we can have fun trying to decided what's what, and who's who, and who is what.

Welcome, Winyari! Glad you joined us here on BYC! You'll like it here. It's a great place to come and talk chicken when everyone in the "normal" world gives you weird looks for saying things like 'wattles' or 'point of lay'

It's fun to have chicks! If you could manage to get a picture of them at some point, there are plenty of knowledgeable and helpful people on these forums who could help you figure out their gender and breed.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm excited to get to know you all. I'll post a photo of our little fuzz balls tomorrow. This is going to be so much fun!!!

Welcome, Winyari! This forum is very active and very friendly and knowledgeable. I'm pretty new to chickens as well but there's no turning back now! LOL

I am so disheartened this morning. I got up early to candle my remaining 4 eggs before lockdown later this evening. Only 1 egg looks like I think it should on day 17. The other 3 have a tiny clear/light space at the bottom of the egg that I think should be too dark to see through at this point. Am I right? I'm leaving them in for lockdown, just in case, but I'm not expecting them to do anything.

I love baby goats..kids... this will hold us over until the others arrive..

Should be soon I hope. She is in Labor now, getting close. After checking on her every couple of hours last night I am exhausted...so I hope it is quick.
