Lucky you, two eggs at once. That has never happened for me.
Speaking of failure to thrive..Red, my cute little black is giving up! It is so much smaller than the silkies that just hatched. It was doing so well for a while, even better after you saw her. I am so sad. I can tell she isn't going to make it. I guess I just can't feed her enough, I even give her some egg every other day. I have now noticed, that the ones that come as really small babies from a pullet egg, just don't make it. Arrggh! Wish they wouldn't send such tiny eggs..even the Silkie eggs will come with extra tiny eggs. The babies do well for a while, then don't make it.![]()
What? Nooooo!

Well, while that does make me sad about the little silkie, I can add to Lisa's good news that not all of the teeny babies die. Lisa, do you remember how small Angel was? She is doing so good! She is by far the fluffiest little pullet I have, and still the sweetest one, too. She and Steve are pretty mild. Angel will walk right up to you and let you hold her, no fuss. Cynthia, that BO/EE I got from you, Thelma, does the same thing now. She's made such good progress with being handled, I'm so proud of my babies!
Sphinx, pretty girls there. I was going to say last night and forgot: The thistles we get in our yard are a different kind. They're the darker green ones that spread horizontally, rather than vertically. I've seen the ones you're refering to, though. I encounter those occasionally along the ditch bank where I get my irrigation water, and while I like the flowers, I hate the thorns. I stomp those things down and pulp them, when I can. I'll have to grab one some time and throw it in the run to see what my girls do with it, then I'll let you know.
And I'm lovin' those chick and duckling pictures, you guys
