Utah!

Hurray!!!!!!! I have 4 of my Auracanas pipping in the other bator None of the sizzles have pipped in the other bator so far. I'm going to do a necropsy tomorrow on the first bator and see why the others did not pip or hatch

Red, you should still do some research on what the truck is worth. Also calculate the tools and the lumber that was in there. Have a basic number that would be fair, and that way, when they come to you, you'll know if what they're offering is fair or not. If it's half of what it ought to be, do like said and be prepared to give your evidence as to value.

Sundance, congrats on the pips! I'm sorry you didn't have better luck with your sizzles.

I ended up doing a temporary shelter for the little chicks with some chicken wire. It'll work for now, and this way, they'll get used to the other chickens, and hopefully integration won't be a big deal.

Everyone also seems to have taken to the nipple waterers well, so I'm pretty psyched.

I like your style of chicken math!

92 chicken bodies, minus 30 teens, minus 22 Tweens, minus 12 chicks, minus 1 hen with the chicks, minus one broody hen, minus one rooster because he's working hard. I'm almost to my goal of 24 hens.
Since I almost have 24 hens I can get those 2 weaner pigs I've been wanting! Chicken math spreads across species.
Yes it does work across species... for example I only have 3 goats (not 10, 3 are still babies & 4 are baby boys and won't be staying).. I have 4 pigs cuz Pork Chop and Bacon are just food storage I haven't frozen yet.. LOL
Birdguy, I LOVE your chicken math. Let me try: 25 bodies minus 6 pullets not yet laying, minus 7 teenagers minus 8 tweens minus 3 babies= 2 chickens. Yay!!!

I like your math A LOT better than mine... if that's the case, I only have 4 hens, because 2 of the 'hens' just started laying in May, which leaves plenty of room for those pullets when they start laying=)

And your count seems about right... too... good luck with the extra 150ish 0's you need to find homes for, if I had a barn like you, I would need to fill it up and I would help you out=)
See everybody is getting it now... chicken math is easy peasy!!

Not very long!!!

So is that realtime or are you using chicken mileage math?

Why did the chicken cross the road????

According to my calculations, driving 2 hours to get a $5 chicken makes the total cost zero. Because you can deduct mileage.....from the cost of the chicken. Right?

Well according to my math you make money driving 2 hours to get a $5.00 chicken because you are going to get more eggs to eat. so there is your payment
2 hours driving to get dozens and dozens of future eggs plus the enjoyable time with a fellow addict enthusiast is priceless!!

Red so very sad about your truck!! Best of luck in getting a fair settlement!!! Let me know if you end up in the market for another truck... I have some serious connections!!!

ok so hunny who told me to quit looking at the incubators because I would give the chicks a complex called me into the kitchen a bit ago. He says I can hear cheeping from incubator 1. I looked and sure enough 4 more had pipped after a 24 hour period of nothing. I told him to quit looking because he might give them a complex. so Now I have 4 in incubator 1 and 4 in incubator 2 that have piped. I did help the sizzles free their heads because I do not want to lose another chick. the 1st three are doing great and are eating and drinking. Walking much better

Sasha, Please, please please take the lavender ameraucana. He's such a sweetheart for the most part. For giggles I put the three two week old chicks in the pen, and he was kind of fighting with the one (oh crap, that means it's going to be a boy, doesn't it?

), so I decided to put him in with the big girls to teach him a lesson. I could tell things weren't going well, so 1-2 minutes later, I went into the big girls' pen. He literally jumped into my arms. Had dh cracking up at how anxious he was to get into my arms and away from the mean girls.

Welcome, wgidir! I think my one set of chicks is in the 6-7 week range, and I haven't given them light at all in a couple weeks. The tractor they're sleeping in has a fairly small box, and they all kind of huddle together and seem to do just fine.
LOL :) You're talking me into it, Wendy. I'll sleep on it tonight and let you know tomorrow for sure. He's definitely a cutie! How old is he? Would he, bred with my two wyandottes, produce an olive egger?

Or maybe a green layer?

I'm totally cracking up over all the brilliant math figures!
