Utah!

I started a small flock of 4 (thats all the city allows) a year ago. I live in Smithfield, which is 6 miles north of Logan. First time having chickens. Didn't know it could be so fun. Wish I could have more.

renrag44. Yeah, four isn't enough. They are fun and interesting. And the eggs are awesome!

Howdy, so you all know about the Utah Fancy Poultry Association show this coming weekend don't you? I just thought I'd make sure that everyone on this thread knew about it. It's at the Davis County fairgrounds in Farmington, Friday and Saturday.

Hello all!

I’m back;
Great to see so much activity here this week! I didn’t feel I could ‘announce’ my vacation publicly last week, but my wife and I just got back last night from a 7-night Mexican Riviera cruise! It was wonderful!! But, there is SO much to do after a long vacation… sheeze… My 4 boys took care of the 15 birds while we were gone. Did a pretty good job too…

Lucky and Ducky the Buff Orpingtons;
I say 15 birds, not 16 because… “Ducky” the Buff Orpington roo got sent to freezer camp a day before we left on vacation. I’d been watching this 19 week old roo to start crowing, but he never did. I was sure he would start while we were on vacation, and I didn’t want the boys, or the neighbors to deal with it, so I figured I had to do him in before we left. What an experience. I’ll do things a little differently next time, but good to know I can do it. Now to figure out how to cook him up!

Utah Fancy Poultry next Saturday;
[without turning this into a political thread…]
This year I expressed interest in being a delegate for the State republican convention, mostly because I’m sick of what’s going on in Washington. Saturday night I got invited to meet Mitt Romney and get his new book. It’s the same day as the chicken show. I still haven’t decided what to do that day.

Breeds discussion;
Great discussion on different breeds. Before deciding on what breed to get this year, I took a lot of information about different breeds and made a spreadsheet. I started a discussion here on BYC , but it didn’t go too far. You can look at the .pdf I made about different breeds here .

My 50 chicken Delaware order;
While driving back from California yesterday, I called the hatchery and they said everything was ok for my order to ship on Monday. I’ve got to do a little more work on the coop door, and setting up lights and feeders etc., but it looks like things are going well. I hope we sell all we need to. I’ll keep you posted!

It's good to be back!
