Utah!

I wondered the same thing before we got our polish chickens, but ours did fine this winter. They were under 6 months old at the time.
We didn't use anything special to keep them warm. I did notice that on the really cold days (-15 to -20) they seem sluggish, but all of our breeds did.

Hello everyone!

Just started with a small flock in our Provo backyard last summer consisting of RIR, BPR & RSL - GC.

All of them laid every day throughout the winter. They get along great with my two cats who I let roam around the flock under direct supervision.

My feed in non-medicated. I buy it either at the Rockin E country store in Bountiful off of 5th S. or I buy it at Dallas Green in Layton off of Antelope Dr. I buy a 50 pound bag, it's around $14. I use pellets because I hear there is not as much mess and waste, but my chickens still throw it around like it's a party. They also get leftovers and scraps and I toss scratch around sometimes as a boredom buster and treat when I think of it which is a few times a month.

writermom, I wouldn't trust to much in IFA's sexing of chicks I bought 12 last year and ended up with 5 hens. Good luck though!

Ugh! I saw your post about that and hoped that you had purchased straight run chicks. I guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and see if anyone crows. What did you do with your roosters?

Opp, my bad. I did buy straight run, 6 silkies and six bantam variety chicks.
As for the guys I put a ad on KSL for 2 and the rest I donated to a private nature reserve. (HEE at least that's what we called it

My best friend had an oopsie with buying Bantams at IFA last year. Apparently they only get those straight run, so she got quite a few roosters as well.

Also, the Polish she bought were not sexed. That's why I've been asking if the Polish are sexed or not this year... Anyway, she's going to order Polish off mypetchicken.com so she can make sure they are hens. The only problem there is that they don't have Polish available yet....

I have bought some young pullets a couple different times from here. She guarantees pullets and will trade you for a pullet if one of yours turns out to be a roo. I was there last week and she had hundreds of chicks including silkies, not sure about polish though.
