Hey everyone! I know I've been missing, the holidays have been crazy! I didn't catch up on everything so I hope all is well and everyone has had a lovely holiday seasons on so far! My girls are doing well, but HATE the snow. They won't even go outside while I'm cleaning their coop. They just shuffle around to the other side.![]()
I've put a container with chicken nipples in for their water, but I've only seen one of them drinking from it. I'm pretty sure more than one of them are based on how fast it's emptying, but I'm not sure. I've kept other water in there for them just in case. Any hints on how to make sure they're all drinking from the new container?
Here are some pictures.![]()

Are your chickens sounding like ducks? lol..when their voices change, they sound like ducks to me. My Black girl, the Australorp, sounds the most like a duck right now. You are going to have some nice egg layers. That blue is going to be pretty too..it looks like a girl too..good for me..I picked two girls for you! Mine also do not like the cold, they will sit in that coop unless I come out to feed and water.Lisa, that sounds like a fun assortment of chickens. Are you going to think your existing flock to make room, or just expand? My polish isn't laying right now. I think once she starts and the weather improves, I'm going to separate everyone out, with Thing 1 and Thing 2 in the time out coop together. When that happens, I'd be thrilled to get some of her eggs to you. She did turn out really pretty, especially given her beginnings. I'll probably have you pick up a FBCM from pawtrait, her hens are so beautiful.
I was going to hatch some tolbunts but decided to wait until next year possibly, I found the Houdans and wanted to try those first. Plus the tolbunt eggs are way pricey. All in all I am adding around 12 (ha ha the math begins..) , and I have about 8 out there now that I won't keep. BUT I am hoping for a weensy coop expansion this Spring for my birthday, depends on if my DH wants to do it again lol! He gets Spring fever every spring, so I am going to try to take advantage of his energy.

Personally, I think that 2/3 of an acre is plenty to have more than 6 chickens, but I'm kind of a rebel.
