I am planning on having Ancona ducklings for sale at the chickenstock May 4th.. Anconas are an endangered heritage breed of duck, they don't fly and are supposed to lay better than most chickens..

Hey everyone! I know I've been missing, the holidays have been crazy! I didn't catch up on everything so I hope all is well and everyone has had a lovely holiday seasons on so far! My girls are doing well, but HATE the snow. They won't even go outside while I'm cleaning their coop. They just shuffle around to the other side.

I've put a container with chicken nipples in for their water, but I've only seen one of them drinking from it. I'm pretty sure more than one of them are based on how fast it's emptying, but I'm not sure. I've kept other water in there for them just in case. Any hints on how to make sure they're all drinking from the new container?
Here are some pictures.

My little camera hog. This is what she does every time I get out a camera.

These girls are BFFs, they're always together.

And gratuitous toddler pictures. He turned two this month!

Oh my goodness...love..love your crested swedish flower hen..and it's a girl!! Lucky! I should get a picture of my girl. She has the mille f. coloring..no crest though. :( Are your chickens sounding like ducks? lol..when their voices change, they sound like ducks to me. My Black girl, the Australorp, sounds the most like a duck right now. You are going to have some nice egg layers. That blue is going to be pretty too..it looks like a girl too..good for me..I picked two girls for you! Mine also do not like the cold, they will sit in that coop unless I come out to feed and water.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TO THE BIG BIRTHDAY BOY~ Can you believe it? Time goes by right? Cute little guy!

Lisa, that sounds like a fun assortment of chickens. Are you going to think your existing flock to make room, or just expand?  My polish isn't laying right now. I think once she starts and the weather improves, I'm going to separate everyone out, with Thing 1 and Thing 2 in the time out coop together. When that happens, I'd be thrilled to get some of her eggs to you. She did turn out really pretty, especially given her beginnings. I'll probably have you pick up a FBCM from pawtrait, her hens are so beautiful.

Well I went from 34 to 26 after discovering roosters, and getting a few to new homes that were not so nice...I have a few of my two year olds that I will retire this summer, and a couple that I will sell for not so great egg size/color or not getting along too well. So my newbies will replace those. I had a minimum order to make so I got a few of each of the kinds I like, figuring I would resell a few then keep 2 of each to make sure I have girls in the breeds I want. I do not trust the sexing lol it has failed me before. I am getting a few from pawtraitart, another olive egger, BTB marans, and trying to get some blue wheatens from her...then these chicks from McMurray...and my DH wants an icelandic, then a GSL from Birdguy and maybe a polish from you :) I was going to hatch some tolbunts but decided to wait until next year possibly, I found the Houdans and wanted to try those first. Plus the tolbunt eggs are way pricey. All in all I am adding around 12 (ha ha the math begins..) , and I have about 8 out there now that I won't keep. BUT I am hoping for a weensy coop expansion this Spring for my birthday, depends on if my DH wants to do it again lol! He gets Spring fever every spring, so I am going to try to take advantage of his energy. :p :p :p

Andrea, love the pictures! Your girls are turning out gorgeous! Not to dig at anyone, but I think it's kind of funny that the SFH don't like to go out in the snow. My Icelandics are wandering around or standing in it all the time.

Personally, I think that 2/3 of an acre is plenty to have more than 6 chickens, but I'm kind of a rebel.

Hahaha, Sphinx and I are in the same boat. No wonder we're friends

I've got 19 chickens running aound on a 1/2 acre of land, plus three turkeys. Oooh, fun trouble.

Happy New Year, everyone! Please be safe.

I made it to the end of the year without getting more chickens! WHEEEE!! It wasn't easy, though. Especially when you guys go and keep hatching all of these lovely eggs................

So, I think I may have some insight as to where some of my chickens in Tooele have been disappearing to. Remember how my Dominique, my GLW, and my adoptive BO just vanished? Well, now one of my black Am's and my EE roo are missing. There are no feathers on the ground or signs of a struggle or a predator in the yard. Sooo my boyfriend is beginning to wonder if he shouldn't check the animal shelter out there. Why? Because of his creepy neighbors out back that shot his horse before and other garbage. We think they're either swiping the chickens or taking them to the pound. Or calling animal control. It's still a guess at this point. So, I got a game cam for my birthday, and I'm really tempted to find somewhere out there to hide it and see what exactly is going on. Sorry for the bad news all.
