Utah!

Cynthia I am SO glad he is being taken care of and they are pinpointing the problems. Goodness he went way too long, hope he feels much better in the coming days! You too, now you know he is in good hands, get rest and try not to worry so much

I am done with the hatch...14 of 17 hatched, the other three just kind of sat there and sat there, me being impatient, went in slowly to find beaks, and the two wheaten eggs should have probably hatched last night darn it, I was wishing I would have helped sooner, they were ready, just did not get the pips externally. The other was an EE egg, and it had quit at least a few days ago.
So the tally 14--8 fbcm, 4 cuckoo mixes (surprise! the dad is not the blue wheaten roo ha ha it was the FBCM that the mom had just been put with, they all look just like the FBCM only a couple have white spots on their heads) and 1 wheaten and the one EE I posted earlier. The wheaten is just as white as snow, really nice.
I posted the 4 cuckoo/fbcm mixes on ksl, have 6 more in the bator due in two weeks...if anyone wants those chicks:D Then I am keeping the EE and wheaten for now, to see...keeping 2 of the FBCM and I have sold 2 so there are 4 of those left for sale also, if anybody dares fire up the brooder this early (where is your sense of adventure guys?)
Did you see the forecast!?? Snow again, lots, then COLDER than it was last week. Grrrr. I really need it to be February. Now.
Chickie pics to cheer everybody up in a little bit. Oh Cynthia, I found a home for Larry the Un NN this morning. He will be very happy! He was crowing gleefully this morning.

Dumb question. How do you tell the cuckoos from the fbcm? How can you tell who the father is?

What kind of surface are they on? Maybe they do need vitamins
I had them on the spongey drawer liner. Now they are on paper towels with shavings over it.

Cynthia so glad your boy is getting the meds he needs. He sounds like one sick young man. The medicine should pull him out of it. So glad they admitted him to the hospital.

Good question because I am not 100 percent positive, here was my attempt at guessing...
Well with a cuckoo mom and a blue wheaten dad, ...they look neither like cuckoo babies (wouldn't they be all black, white spot on head?) nor yellow like the wheaten babies...but look exactly like the FBCM babies...also the cuckoo mom is clean legged (hatchery stock) and these babies all have feathered feet. I did not think so at first, but yup all feet have fuzz. So it seems likely their daddy is the FBCM :p But if that is wrong tell me! I really would love green eggers. Could they still turn out cuckoo if they have penguin suits and no spot on their heads? But the feathered feet seems like it would be a stretch maybe? T I made blue marker spots on the bellies of the ones that came out of the cuckoo eggs so I would not sell them as pure FBCM by accident. What do you think?

I have no idea that is why I asked. The cuckoo coloring and the white spot on head is something I learned from the sizzle breeder in Phoenix. I have a beautiful suzzle cuckoo very curlee feathers. Very pretty

when Lisa gave out the weather report I decided to go out and spend some time in the coop. I cleaned the insides of the little coops I have in the palace and cleaned some of the palace again getting ready for more nasty weather. The chickens are so cute and all love to help me even the chuckers and quail, Shhh don't tell them they aren't chickens. They don't know. I found my denegard and dosed everyones water with it as a preventative, My silver laced polish has a very interesting beak condition. The top beak curves in and sits on the middle of the lower beak so it can't close its mouth. I decided to trim both of them. The top beak is so curved that even with trimming the top and bottom beak it still can't close its mouth all the way but it was a bit better, Does not seem to bother it much because its fat Denegard if you need some let me knowand not skinny. I have been supplementing corn with the feed I use and everyones feathers are so pretty from the oil.
Sphynx I have a bottle of Denegard. I can give you some if you need it.
My little belgan Duncle is pretty funny. She hates the cold. If there is a trail she will come out for a bit but she likes to sit under the heat lamp. She always has the best spot and does not give an inch to the biffer chcikens. She is so little that she can just duck under the bigger hens and stay warm. Sorry for the rambling Keep warm everyone

Oh boy, I would love some baby chickie pictures. Lisa, sounds like you had a great hatch, will be looking for baby pictures. They always make me smile.

I have the barred rocks on their way, and someone is going to send me some real olive eggs!

Lisa, I'm happy for that rooster. Bet he's pretty. My non NN should start laying by the end of this month, or first part of next. How did you place him? I need to place my cockeral. That I was hoping would be a girl..came from an olive egg, just not a real dark one. Need to place him, and the little one that I just hatched, that is Australorp, and sex link mix.
Plus, I have a few little RIR's to place. I have my two picked out. :)

Back when I was trying to rehome my Polish roosters on KSL this nice guy called. I had just sold them...but Maynard the Showgirl started crowing a few days later so I called him back and he was really excited to take Maynard the showguy. When he was here he said he said if I ever had more roosters he would take them, he has room for quite a few. He does not eat them either :) loves them like pets. So I called him up and he was over to get Larry. Nice to have a spot for those boys. He still has Maynard and said if my showgirl is a girl, we can let them have some time together and get some fertile eggs going this summer. He has a silkie too that he has with Maynard, so he is a happy camper.

Have you looked on KSL lately? I see a zillion roosters for sale for $5 some more. I have only been able to sell one for $5, the rest have had to go for free (plus I feel guilty like I should bake cookies for the person that takes them..)

Hope you can find a good home for your boy.

Wow you got so much done! So you have inspired me. Maybe I can get out in the morning before the snow hits. I wish the ground would thaw, in the places in the run where it had gotten damp, the girls cant scratch it up and it is hard with little turd piles Frozen everywhere. I need to try rake it up a little or something.

Easter egger, Easter egger, can you spot the Easter egger?

Not too hard huh
