Prayers are headed your way for you and yours.

Love all the pictures! Sundance, your little rooster is such a handsome little guy!

Hattie, hang in there. Let us know how the chickies are doing, when you can.

Been an emotional roller coaster this week. Got some really unwanted news yesterday about my BF's divorce stuff. Another 3-6 months now, whee. We thought it was done. Nope, guess not. Which means I still really can't see him. Was hoping for a late winter or early spring wedding..............Yeah, not gonna happen now. Sorry to jump on here and bring a storm cloud with me. I am just feeling so discouraged right now. Got a bit of the gumboo that's going around, too. I'm headed to bed. Good night, all. Sleep well and safe and warm

Oh red I am so sorry. It is so hard. If BF is legally separated why can't you see him. Hang in there, You know you are a very special person. Do you remember the picture you posted with you in the boat fishing. I have the site marked and that picture makes me smile everytime I sign on.

My coop does get frost on the inside walls when it is really cold but No combs have any kind of frost bite. I have 2 heated waters and 4 heat lamps. One over the main roost, One over the main part of the floor and one each inside the the smaller coops inside the big coops that I have the younger chickens in. Needless to say my electric bill is high but I don't care as I think it makes the chickens more comfortable. The seramas are so small I worry that they might get a chill as they came from the south east coast. Not use to this weather.

Oh, Red, I'm so sorry! Why is it being drug out now? That seems really unfair. Has your boyfriend consulted with his attorney to double check that you guys really can't see each other? That would be so discouraging.

Sundancen, that rooster is so adorable! I can't get over how tiny he is.

Speaking of frostbite, I think I need to get some vaseline on my legbar rooster. His comb is so big, and I think circulation is sometimes a problem in the very tips. Plus, he keeps fighting with the bcm rooster, so his comb looks rough right now.

My seven year old starts selling girl scout cookies today. I am sooooo not looking forward to trudging through snow to go door to door. If any of you local folk want to order, PM me. $3.50/box and delivery is in March.

We did ok with no heat in coop with temps overnight of 5 to 7 , but they are forecasting minus temps. The girls have small amount of frost bite on their combs from the blowing snow two storms ago. With this being our first time rasing chickens I am a little worried about the minus temps. Any comments?
Thanks everyone. still getting 4-6 eggs a day.:)

I haven't had a problem with the cold or freezing water in the henhouse until this year. I made this little heater to put under the water on top of concrete blocks and it doesn't freeze, and a heat lamp ready to turn on if we get the below zero temps. Changed the bedding when we had that one - and only one - above freezing day so it's nice and dry, and added another wide roosting board so their feet can stay warm. The ladies look comfortable enough right now... Hoping it doesn't get any colder!

He is tiny with a big attitude its pretty funny. I have his two hens with him and the hen that hurt her leg and a few youngsters, Even though even the youngsters are bigger than him. His crow is funny to. Louder than I expected but still pretty soft.
If someone can go get the chicken from the pound I will take him.
I want cookies will pm you with order

The principle of not dating someone until their divorce is final I think is a valid one, though I think it's hard & crazy that some divorce proceedings get drug out so long.

Red, I hope you find blessings on what has to be a difficult journey.

Conceptually, I agree with you. But, I've known Red well over a year, and he's been separated that entire time. So, we're looking at 2-3 years at least from when he moved out to when the divorce is final. Theoretically (and it is purely theory because I don't know enough about Red's situation to talk about it specifically), if one spouse is dragging things out just to be mean, the whole "not dating" thing shouldn't apply.

Hello, I'm back, Red, I'm sooo sorry, that's got to be hard..... :hugs:

I've got some new recent pictures of my Buff Laced Polish. Her name finally came out to be "Gaga" as in "Lady Gaga" because of her crazy hairstyle :) Anyways, I posted these on Facebook last night and Cynthia was asking me to post them on here, so, here goes. Tell me what you guys think of her ^_^

She's truly a huge sweetheart, When I go out, she goes near me tilting her head sideways to look up and see if I have any treats, which I do, and she eats out of my hand and loves to be carried :) I also am positive she knows she's gorgeous. She always struts and has her head up high, Like in the 2nd picture :D I love her so much :yiipchick

So much always happening here. Red so sorry about your situation. Bad news to have to handle especially when you are sick.

I've been dealing with the same stuff that is going around. It's been a week now and I'm not seeing an end to it yet.

Hang in there.

Cynthia how is your boy doing? How are you feeling? Waiting to hear from you on an update.

Sundance love your little rooster! Are you going to breed some of those? I would love some chicks if you do.

Moriah love what you did for a heated waterer. The water heaters at Cal Ranch are 50 bucks! I'm getting tired of taking hot water out to melt the ice in the mornings. I'll have to see if I can put one of these together. Thanks for posting a picture.

Chico your Polish is beautiful. I am a Polish lover and I think they have such fun personalities besides being beautiful birds. Mine always make me smile and most of the time laugh.

I still have 3 little chicks wearing band- aids on their legs. I'm giving them vitamins and just hoping their legs straighten up.

Thank you, my friends. Sphinx, they've been separated for more than a year, now, and she's actually the one that moved out. The only reason I can figure as to why she is still dragging this out (and has been for a year, now) is that she wants money. He offered to give her the house and go elsewhere. No, she just wanted money, thank you. Alimony, child support (their youngest just turned 19, hardy har har) half the value of everything he owned. I am trying very hard not to be bitter about all of this, especially since he and I have been trying to be the good people and not drag their kids into this, like their mother has. The reason we can't see each other right now is that we'd like to stay in good standing with the church. I had a really good cry the other night after he told me about this latest twist. It's been so hard not to be able to see him, and I have a very bad feeling that his (near) ex is doing this because she also is a very vindictive person. Which, never mind the fact that her behavior in their marriage was ...... um ........ shameful.

I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I really don't want to vent here and drown everyone in the drama

Chiko, I love Gaga's name! Perfect! She has such a sweet face. I'm glad you got her. I wanted one of those BLP chicks, but I didn't have room. I enjoy seeing pictures of other peoples' birds

Sundance, you have a picture of me bookmarked? Goodness, I'm going to blush now. I feel like a celebrity, haha!

Sphinx................I wish you lived closer. I didn't get to get any cookies last year, and this year, I happily have money

Moriah, I love your water bowl warmer! I may have to try something like that.

I caught sight of our resident hawk again this afternoon. I'd just fed the chooks and sat down in the house to watch the yard while I ate something when I saw the hawk land in the neighbor's tree. He wasn't there for very long, and then he headed to a different part of the neighborhood. Fortunately, all of our chickens have taken to holing up inside the run with the heat lamp, and I've got slabs of plywood leaning against either side of it to block out the weather, so they pretty well have a bunker there. Plus, the two Icee boys are good at taking care of their ladies. Plus, we have three big turkeys that roam the area

I did have to put my BR/Dominique in the garage, though. She hasn't been acting like herself, and today when I fed the flock, she just sat down in the back of the run and didn't go for the food. I grabbed her and put her in the layer suite with the light on her, then gave her some food. She was eating okay when I left, so I think I'll just keep her in there overnight and see how she does. I need to mix up some more vitamin water and put it in the water jars. Couldn't hurt to give everybody a boost.

Edit: Oh! Oh! I keep getting excited about my New Year's resolution for 2013. This is the year that I want to adopt some ex-battery hens and rehab them
big_smile.png
I have found a couple of commercial egg farms that I could check with, but I don't know if any of them would sell me some of their "older" birds or not. I so bad want to get my hands on two or three of those poor hens and just have them here with me.
