Utah!

I have been concerned about my husbands button quail being out in the cold. They are so small and won't go in the top part of the little coop. I told Ed that we needed to get them a bird cage and bring them inside. We went looking for bird cages but I was concerned that the kittens would stick paws in to get them. We ended up getting a reptile habitat that has a screen on top and 2 doors in the front that open, A log to hide under, a couple of fake plants for now and Voila a 150.00 enclosure for three quail that cost 10.00 I figured if it didn't work I can put chicks in it. The quail are very happy, I expect them to start laying soon and we can hatch more babies. I love the calls they make so it will be a treat to have them in the house

I forgot to mention that my son had a stint put in..now that makes sense as to why being on cuamadon until that seals in there.

Hey, it got up to double digits here today. It's 10 degrees!

My chickens are hanging out on the roost outside of the coop, except for my broody EE mix, and the smaller pullets..they pretty much stay in when it's this cold. Me too!
I think I'm getting a sore throat. Ugh. That means, the whole head and cough thing..I know how it works..hoping it's not really going to happen.

Aw Red, hang in there. Things will work out, eventually...the waiting is tough but it will happen. We will keep you busy on here to keep your mind off of it all, how does that sound :)

Sphinx I love girl scout cookies, I was the troop cookie manager one year and had cases of cookies filling up my garage--I just kept buying more boxes and eating them and I gained 16 pounds haha. They sound yummy but after my work to get things back in order I better not. But I sure do want to. The samoas are way addictiing to me. (Especially frozen!)

Cynthia, this has turned out to be such an ordeal for poor Richard. Thank you for keeping us updated, and you too Red, I think it is great you have a place to vent and talk and hopefully it helps with the worry! Hope you are not getting sick again, crossing fingers with ya! ;)

Chiko you know I LOVE that polish girl. She is gorgeous. Glad to see pics of her all grown up, I knew she wold be gorgeous, and her name is perfect :D
Sundance I love that little rooster, he is so small! Very cute boy.

Hattie you are a good nurse to those little babies. They are lucky :)

I ended up going to Murray yesterday, I was going to stay home and rest, but my daughter called and had forgotten her wallet, so she could not buy her meals. The roads were bad going, but fine coming home, thank goodness. It was fun to go see her so I was glad she talked me into it, but it wore me out. I think my flu bug is leaving my system finally, so just a little rest and I should have my energy back. My DH was in charge of turning eggs and watching the bator temps and he totally forgot. He is fired :/ My son was in charge of getting eggs and I had frozen eggs in the coop. He is fired :/ They went to the movies and a basketball game and out to eat. At least they had fun lol

Oh Lisa...lol...you made me laugh! DH and DS...fired. I had to read that out loud to Scott. Pretty funny. I'm glad they had fun. Your eggs int the bator are just fine, sorry about those frozen eggs. I just stuck the one I had in the fryin pan. It melted, eventually.

I told Chiko you would love that polish. She really turned out pretty.

Cynthia, I'm so glad your son is doing okay! I'm glad they found that clot and got it out. Poor guy has had a raft of crap to deal with, hasn't he? I hope you don't get too sick. You don't need any more sick time right now, yuck

Lisa! I must have missed that you were sick, too! I hope you get feeling better, girl.

Sundance, how fun with the button quail. They were SO stinking cute when I saw them! I couldn't believe they were adults.

Well, it's supposed to get down to -2 here tonight. We're putting everyone in the garage until morning. Should be.....um, interesting

(that's a nice way to say "nuthouse")

Sundancen, that'll be fun to have those quail in the house.

Lisa, glad you're finally feeling better. I've heard the flu is supposed to be really awful this year. I'm a little worried because my almost 13 year old spent all day friday and Saturday with a friend, and today, she popped up with the flu. Here's hoping my son's immunity is good because I'll be unhappy if he gets sick.

Red, good luck getting everyone into the garage tonight.

I am going to Lehi tomorrow evening for a birthday party, if anyone needs a chicken train.

I have some RIR's. :D And a Nankin.

Alright.. I am getting a little worried. I am hearing that the temps are supposed to drop to -3 tonight. Should I leave a light on tonight? Or cover the vents for the night to prevent a cold draft?

Probably wouldn't hurt to leave a light on. I just moved all 19 of our chickens and three turkeys into the garage and separated them into several cages. We've got the space heater on low out there, so it should stay above freezing temps. Thank goodness my dad is a super insulation nut, because that garage will stay nice and warm !

I REALLY want the snow to go away so I can finally get hatching babies! So many Ebay ads and Hatchery Catalogs are tempting me, but I don't want chicks in Winter :p
