Utah!

Wow, I can't believe how far behind I am! Welcome to the newbies, it's great to see the other, REALLY MIA oldies.

I know I'm going to forget half of what I read.

Those BCM chicks definitely look like boys. :( Sorry

Sundance, it's great to hear that Jacque's leg has healed. Hopefully the muscle will come back soon. Good luck with the cat show.

Red, I'll be at your wedding with bells on. I'm sorry that you're having tummy trouble and your BF is having ex trouble.

Corvidae, if you ever part with a blue blrw, I'm all in. I have one of your splash hens, and she's gorgeous. I want one of your legbar boys, but I don't know what I'd do with my white legbar boy that you gave me. I already have three roosters, I definitely can't have a fourth.

Girl scout cookies will arrive in early march. I've been busy with work, which is a good thing.

cute chicks guys!!

Cynthia, I'm laughing about finding a blue egg, how many girls and what types do you have right now?

I think that bird of Aravis' is a pullet, it has a pullet shape and thinner legs, etc... wow, I can see why the ??? b/c of the comb and wattles, though, but the SFH roos have big straight combs... obviously, time will tell, haha, till she crows anyway!!

sorry about all your roo chicks cyndiloo, especially when your ratio is 3/3, that little OE pullet sure is cute though!!

My birds have definitely picked up their laying with the increase in sunlight... At my place, no lights, at my mom's, the light runs on daylight hours only and the egg-laying has definnitely increased over the past few weeks.. Got 8 eggs the other day, from about 10 layers, looks like the girls that quit last fall after their molt are starting again, so spring here we come!!

I'm going to buy an incubator this week and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I have been looking at the ones at ifa and cal ranch with the egg turner, you know, the foam ones. Does any one have an preference of one brand over the other? Oh ya, i ordered 500 lbs of feed from the guy on ksl that's from delta. I thought i would give it a try. The feed i give them now is the same except it has an added higher protein layer pellet in the feed. The only problem is my flock wont eat the pellets, they have been raised on grains and scratch the pellets out. My supplier on feed change her source and it has more pellets then grains and i think the chickens have waisted close to half of the last 300 lbs i bought in December. He claims it still has a 14 percent protein count. I might buy 100 lbs of oats to mix in just for a good mix, what do you all think?

Oh ya, the three chicks i hatched in December are up for grabs if any one wants one. Free to any BYC members. 2 look to be hens, RIR/ Australorp. The last is undecided. RIR/ Buff Silkie, looks like a roo but so did all my silkies when they were chicks.

I had terrible luck with the little giant incubato sold at IFA and Cal ranch.r. I bought this one and it works beautifully see the link below. I also bought a hovabator that has the automatic temperature control worked great as well

Madchicken, I think you may be okay with the pellets. My chickens had some game bird pellets mixed into their food when they were a little younger, and they didn't quite know what to do with them at first. However, I only feed my flock a certain amount each day, so if they don't finish something one day, it gets left on the ground and they have to eat it the next day (I'm a mean mom) It also helps if you have one of your birds that decides the pellets are delicious - having turkeys helps me a lot. They'll eat just about anything, so the chickens decide that if they're so crazy about it, it must be worth trying.

Hahaha - so call me warped, but I was standing out back earlier and having a good laugh while the turkeys tried to mate. It was both of the white ones, and they just don't quite get how things work yet. I had let everybody out on the back lawn and was supervising, and the jake started puffing up and changing colors. The white hen came over and gave him a goooood, thorough inspection, then started flirting and dancing around. The jake didn't know what to think, so she started cuddling up under his chest and even maneuvering so that she was backed up and in position. He tried to figure it out, but since all he knew how to do was to bend his legs and all the hen knew how to do was to not bend her legs, the best that happened was the hen got a mild dose of being kicked in the fanny

Picture overload! Got a couple of cute pictures of Donna, her son, and myself.

Peace! Donna's idea..loved it..I haven't done that in years. That's a great picture. Will
be sending this one to my son. :) Donna, you got the best rabbit ears here.

The little chicks that sundance brought, and my two, think the leghorn is like mama. They
stay close to her, and they will try and snuggle under her, but there isn't enough room!

My olive eggs, the two bottom ones are from red, plus the one above the blue one. The
blues and blue/greens are from Red too. I love her green ones. I only have one that looks
to be developing..hoping it hatches out a girl for me! That blue in the middle, is very
active. Those marans eggs look good, threw one out so far, but that huge one is fertile!

These EE's are all developing! All 12 that the guy sent..and the air sacs look good!

Donna, so nice to meet you today. I love meeting new chicken people. Too bad that good looking son
didn't raise those handsome eyes! He has gorgeous hazel green eyes. :) Have fun with the
Swedish Flower Hen, and if she gets a name, let me know. She never had one here.

babysniffles..come on in, introduce yourself, and let us know what you have in chickens. Where are you from? Welcome aboard!

Hey everyone, I read this thread quite a bit but I haven't posted in here for a long time, So I feel like I know all of you even if very few of you know me!
I was wondering if any of you have a broody hen that you would be willing to sell? I have had great luck the past few years with putting day old chicks under a brood hen and letting her raise them. It works wonderfully (amazingly I haven't lost a chick yet this way) and I don't have to worry about chicks staying warm or getting bored in a brooder. However we sadly lost our best broody to a neighborhood dog recently and now I am faced with the question of how to raise this years chicks.
Any help that you could lend me in finding another stubbornly broody hen would be greatly appreciated!
Branson, i might have a broody silkie if you want. She stopped laying 2 days ago and hasn't left the nest box's. The problem i have here is there is only four boxes that the hens use and if they are all being used then the broody bantams get kicked out by the big girls. She lets me pick her up off of the eggs and set her back down and she still doesn't leave the box. I'm sure if you could separate her from the large girls she would hatch out some eggs for you. But like i said she is a silkie and i wouldn't try to hatch more then 4 large eggs and i would keep her in a pen/coop that doesn't get to cold. I will know if she is serious by this weekend. When she isn't broody she lays 3-4 eggs a week, but this only last about a month or so before she goes broody again. I bought the silkies because of their broodiness but didn't account for how often they go broody. With 4 Siklies and 1 EE bantam, that's just as bad, i really would like to get rid of one.
