Utah!

You ladies (and gentlemen) are too sweet to me. That's all I can say.

Went to the eye doctor today. He didn't find anything seriously wrong, just dry eyes. I got some eye drops to try for the next little while. I'm glad it wasn't a big issue.

So I promised pictures of my incubator... here's one... it's not the best because I can't get far enough away from it on that side to get the whole thing in the picture, the wall is in the way.. It is 3 feet wide, about 32 inches deep and high... the trays are bread trays from the grocery store and hold 12 dozen each..(I have another 18 pack of turkey eggs on the floor because I had them...) It took me an hour to get them all in... I have Icelandics, Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas, Chocolate Ameraucanas, Various Orpingtons, my sex link projects, Marans, Naragansetts, Black Spanish and Penciled Palm turkeys...

Here's hoping it works well and we'll have a lot of chicks for Easter!!

OH.MY.GOODNESS. !!!!!!!!

You guys are having a great time hatching chicks! The bug is contagious, but I'll have to resist for now. I'm temporarily moving to Wahweap, where Hubbie is now the assistant manager at the Utah State Fish Hatchery there. I've gotten a job offer and am moving stuff down, including chickens! It's a 6 hr drive. I'm thinking to put them in two big dog crates (14 per), cover with a blanket, and transport in an enclosed trailer. Please let me know if you have a better idea! I'm having a little surgery today, hope to check back here on Friday.

Red - too bad you didn't have your dress when you were here - I'm great at alterations :). Hope your hatching goes well. I started with a cheapo Bator, then got a Hova - which I LOVE. I incubate in the Hova with a turner, then transfer to the cheapo for the messy work of hatching. Then I can have staggered hatches progressing in one, and hatch in the other. A liner in the cheapo helps with clean up in between.

If you shortened the elastic on the apron would it still be too big? Is it the area between the wings that's too wide or just the elastics too long?

Ooooh - nervous about surg, nervous about move, nervous about traveling with chickens.. But excited!

Heh, and here I thought my Sportsman was dangerous! I had tons of bad dreams last night about little chicks hatching out like crazy and me desperately trying to find someplace to put them. I also couldn't figure out what to do with all the boys and I was sure there were so very many of them! People kept coming over to buy chicks and wanting only girls (of course) and I kept telling them I couldn't tell the difference. They'd look at me like I was an idiot and leave in disgust while I desperately tried to sort the boys from the girls. Really shouldn't have been that hard, considering half of what I'm hatching is cream Legbars. Sheesh.

That is so wonderful. What are you doing with your beautiful home. It will be a quite a change moving to wahweap after living in the foothills of pg. The heat will fry you down there but enjoy Powell and everything. Chickens will travel fine for 5 hours in the manner you described. Do you have a secure coop? Lots of wild critters down that way. Keep in touch

Wow, big move. Are you keeping your home up here? You said temporary?
Good luck on your surgery. No surgery is fun.
Let us know how your move went and how you are liking it there.

So glad its nothing major! Hooray for good news :) And.....sunshine again this morning! Flip flop day (for the crazy people like me anyway)!

I went to Blujems house last night, yes I wore my flip flops in the snow, and it was fantastic. (the visit, not the flip flops lol)
Her goats are freakin' the cutest thing ever. They are everywhere haha! And I roostered her times 7. :) And I brought home an elephant! ;)
Yes, I really did, and I love it :) (thanks phoenix!)

So this big "storm" that is coming.....can we just go take a nap and pretend it is still sunny when it comes? Please?

Birdguy, I had dreams about your bator lol Donna, you are not alone. I dreamed that I opened my fridge and it was a bator, full of eggs, looked just like Birdguy's picture, with the black trays, and little chicks started jumping out on me and running away, my dog was chasing them and trying to eat them all up and I was trying to catch him. Very traumatic. Soooo glad I have a little bitty bator I would be in big trouble with a big one! My house is never getting cleaned as it is.....

Moriah good luck! And stay in touch with us. You have such a nice barn, it is too bad you have to leave that!

They say storm, but it's almost 60 here! The sky is blue. Now I wonder for how long?

My little bantam Favorelle laid her first egg today..she took a while, scratching in this nest box, and that, then she finally decided on one. I hope she doesn't go brood soon. I don't think they are as broodyish as the silkies.

Lisa, I candled Brandi's egg for her yesterday, her showgirl eggs are doing well. She only has a few, but hopefully they keep it up. They go into lock down next week. 13th. I will help her with it so she gets the humidity right.

Here's a picture of my teeny egg, along with the Wheatens', and a sex link..non NN's.

So cute and tiny, but will fit on a piece of toast!
