The temp is pretty steady in that room (my bedroom). I could not get a stable temp with that bator, constantly had to digit a little one way or the other. The new bator has been holding steady from the first second. That other one spiked to 109 and I did nothing to the thermostat. Lesson learned, I might be able to make that one work for me, but I am afraid to try again.Lilwanis, I'm sorry about your hatchWhy do you think your bator spiked? Is it in a room where the temperature changes much?![]()
I can't wait to travel up north! So excited to have living chickies! I finally called Brandi, and she told me that hers had been delivered. Are there any wheaten am's up that way? I really would like to get some... Sorry to hear about your EE chickAww Lilwanis, I am so sorry! Sometimes those things stick I swear. That really is the dumps. I will be excited to see you and your happy face when you get chicks. Brandi's already went to her...so you won't have hitchhikers as far as I know, unless anybody else wants what I have left....there are 3 snowballs and 3 WCB Polish left. I was lucky to sell all the others pretty fast, and the ones I hatched day before yesterday. I wish the 3 turkens had not escaped though, I had more people wanting them darn it. Sad news for me too.... My son called me while I was uptown and said one of the two "sparkles" chicks died. (Sparkles is an EE of Blujems, that is super sweet, and we want to get babies from here because she keeps threatening to be done laying). UGH! I came home, and the lighter one was flat as a pancake, the others were sitting on it. I had this happen last year with a Polish baby. The brooder is not crowded at all, I have 2 brooders, one with my chicks in it (6 chicks) and one with the remaining 'sold' chicks in it (10 chicks), so I do not know why they did that. I was sad to lose it, I really thought of the two that one would be the girl. I kind of wonder if the heat lamp was down a little close and she got too warm...they were all sitting outside the warm circle when i got home so I hoisted it up a little, the kids turned the heat up in the house when I left and I think that was enough to warm that brooder up a little higher than it should be. The rest look fine now, I just want to go back in time and bring her back though. I am pretty bummed about it. I just know the other one will be a boy. It really sucks to get the darn eggs to hatch, the babies to eat and drink, then you think you are all set...then this happensBlujems, I really hope Sparkles lays more eggs! Oh, and if you will save two marans from your next hatch, I have a guy that said he did want them for sure. Ok, then the brighter note...Cal ranch had EE's tonight that were gorgeous. Lavender and light blue colored ones, some with a little tan or rust coloring,,with giant fat muffs and beards. I did not get any, although I oogled over them for half an hour, but if any body in Cache Valley is looking for something cute, there ya go.. they were not the normal chipmunky ones. They only had a few but they were really fluffy and sweet.

Thank you! Me too! Just want to say happy Friday to y'all! The day is looking much brighter today.Red, glad you didn't have AC after you. I had a run in with them last week- two of our cows jumped the fence and had wandered into our front yard while I was volunteering my kids' school. Luckily, they were super nice and helpful. Helped me get them back into the field, said that since they'd never had a call on us before, they weren't going to cite us. Then we talked chickens because they both kept chickens. It was nice way to end a potentially horrible situation.
Oh, Doughie, that puppy is so cute!! We call those shoestrings.
Corvidae, I'm so glad you got two wellsummers out of that batch.
Lilwanis, I'm so sorry about your bad hatch. I hope you can figure out what caused the spike to prevent it next time.
Cynthia, that little chick is so cute!
I"m thinking maybe I'll hatch silkies with one of my school hatches. I do want a white silkie still.
