Utah!

Rykel, I know her, she is a good friend of mine. I'll be asking her. :3 I just reconnected with her too! She's on BYC? Awesomeness. xD I don't care if they're chicks as long as I get them in time to go in with my Brahma chicks or something. I'll ask her when she replies later on. ^^

Cynthia-- There's a Welsummer up on KSL--is that your girl? If so, Joel really wants her!

I saw this too late! I have someone supposedly coming at 12:30. If she doesn't show, I will tell the other guy that just called, that someone is getting her..you! I told him to call back at 1:00. I waited a long time for her to lay. She is laying well now, but I have so many girls starting, including my OE layer..

that I have to give someone up. I am more fond of the others. I am like Lisa, I have my favorites.

She is a sweet bird, just happen to like a couple of the others better. I will be selling other girls as others start to lay. A sex link is next. I know you aren't interested, but if anyone else is, she will be going as soon as my RIR's start laying. And she has only been laying since winter. Nice eggs. I have so many babies, I am going to be getting new layers for a while. I will be keeping one of my sex links for a long time, I love her. :) Reba. :))

Quote: Its cracked corn, wheat and barley. The barley does still have the husk and makes a mess under the feeder but it cleans up easy. As far as organic i don't think so. I don't really know what makes feed organic. I did add a bag of all flock feed pellets to it last time cause i had it left over from when i ran out of feed, that's why you can see the pellets. I just talked the the guy and he says the price did go up to 18.00 per 100 lbs and then its .15 per pound on freght. last time it was 16.00 per hundred and i think i paid $104.00 per 500 lbs. So it might be 114.00 now. Or around 9.70 per 50lbs witch is still a good price. In my last post i said my order covers freight. That is wrong you still have to pay freight. I meant to say my order covers minimum amount to deliver. They wont deliver under 500 lbs.

Kimmypie, I plan to keep my legbars around, and am actually hoping to acquire a hen or two to increase my breeding program. So no worries; there will be legbar breeders around.

Madchicken, Sundance is absolutely right. Chicks don't count. Actually, anything too young to lay doesn't count. Also, nothing counts that you are planning on getting rid of. For example, for a short while, I had about 4 excess roosters/cockerels. They TOTALLY don't count in the chicken total. I would love some of that wheat, but it's so far to Orem that my "free" wheat would end up getting really spendy. Thanks for posting it though. I bet others will be interested.

Cynthia, that is a beautiful olive egg. I am so excited you FINALLY got one!!

Pancake, I have a male and female polish, but there's also a marans in that pen, so any eggs I got from my polish would be iffy. That, and I have a really tough time determining which egg is my polish and which is my penciled hamburg. So, a huge gamble all around.

I hope you all are having a lot of fun at chickenstock. I would've loved to have gone. Maybe next year?

I did my 50 mile bike ride today. Other than a nasty leg cramp at mile 49, it went really well.

Once I got home, dh and I strung up some barbed wire across the bottom of our one fence. We have a cow that is an escape artist, and his newest hobby is trying to escape from our yard daily. It's been an incredible pain. When people found out we bought bottlefed baby cows, they asked me how in the world I'd be able to send them to freezer camp when they're ready. After a week like this one with the one cow, I'm ready to make a countdown chart!!! He's escape EVERY SINGLE DAY. Luckily my neighbor was understanding. He was escaping into a yard to the other side, but the house was vacant, so we weren't "caught".

Once I got all that stuff done, I came in and took the splint off my fbcm with the splayed leg. It looks sooooo much better. It's not 100% fixed, but so close that I don't think I need to resplint it. I am so excited to have a second success story with treating this.

I'm not so sure about Polish. I have been given an offer though. We'll see how it works out, I'm just not sure. More concerned about Orpingtons at the moment.

I'm at the point where I'm not sure if I want to keep incubating these eggs. I'm wishing I'd waited till my hens were separated. I also found that one rooster, but can't breed him because I don't have a second incubator, and he's really mean. I'm feeding him out of my hand and he pecks me on the arm hard enough to draw blood. Zaphod doesn't do that! Well, until then, nothing I can do...

I have five 6 week old chicks, that have been spending the warm days outside in the coop/run. I just went outside to bring them in since the sun is starting to go down, and they are actually all inside the coop, in the one corner in a chick huddle sound asleep. Do you think they are ready to just stay outside all night long. I just feel like its still too cold for them. I do need to go back outside and get my four 4 week olds to bring them back in, but they were all so cute cuddled together.

Any ideas? I can totally close the coop up, and there is no drafts where they are sleeping now, the only place I think they would get a draft is if they all got up on the very highest perch, but I haven't even seen them get on the bottom one.

Do tell everyone How did chickenstock go?  I was so disappointed  that I could not attend.

Fun! Lots of BYC people there. I sold everything I took, which is great! Then I got 4 more Wheatens ( teeny babies ) from pawtraitart , 2 SBEL's from Daloorashens, and a blue chick OE from Daloorashens, my three blue chicks that are the pure Am's and Blu CM look like boys, so I had to get this chicks, crossing fingers for a girl. All four cannot be boys right? That is it, I resisted a lot of fun things. Oh, 1 more, the free chick my son got from Birdguy this year was the Austrawhite, australorp/leghorn which is a white chick with a big black spot on its back. Very cute. Good layer I bet>? I had never heard of these so I was intrigued. WIll get a pic up tomorrow.

Lots more for sale this year than last for sure. Some pretty birds on the show table...my son was in love with a sebright he saw over there. I LOVED meeting the other BYC members, there were quite a few that I got to connect faces with names. The only 3 that I can place as UT members were Myself, Red and Desert Springs..lots of Idaho members though, and so many I have talked to on the Idaho thread and been wanting to meet. Got some quail eggs from icyOldHen. Red got some turkey eggs woohoo! Red managed to display all the willpower in our party and make it out of there with no chicks. I am TOTALLY impressed. She sold Diana's silkies to a really nice lady too :) t hen Red and I and my son had a nice Cinco day mayo Lunch, and headed back. So fun visiting with our Red, love that girl :) My son went to parts of some classes, they were totally packed. And the sliders from Texas Roadhouse smelled soooo yummy, but I never got around to getting one because I just kept gabbing. and gabbing, it was a good time. The only bad thing was when my stepmom showed up after taking my son out to breakfast and pranked me, they said my car was missing and had me going for a bit. I had left the keys in it and she moved it. She is such a stinker haha :) i spotted it across the lot, thank goodness, she would have kept that going all day, she loves to kid around. Note to self---no leaving the keys in the car and do better locking up! Especially when the sneaky stepma is around lol!

That is the sum up of our day!

Wore out! (yes Me!) Endless energy girl met her match, I had a long week and getting up early and all the driving wore me out. Going to meet up with Sasha and GreyBirds to deliver chickens, vacuum all the shavings out of my van, then going to get rest. Will post some pics tomorrow, I was mad at myself for not getting more, but it was a total gab session, I kept forgetting. NOTE TO SELF #2! Take a sharpie or a few pens next year. Lol. Red knows what I mean. Could not keep the chick boxes straight and remember who i paid, who paid me, etc. Dang nobody seemed to have a pen haha! Just chickens.

Red, you are a great travel buddy, thanks for coming, it was fun! I appreciate all your help :)

Birdguy, kudos to you for putting together this fun event. I hope I can come every year! I can not even imagine how many hours you put into this thing, and
it is getting better every time. Fun memories! Thanks so much!

So I brought them all in. How warm does it need to be over night for them to say outside all night long?

Good question. I'm new, but I do have one year of experience.. haha. I have a chicken tractor and locked the chicks up in the coop section for about 3 days. I put the heating lamp out in the coop and would turn it on at night. They did just fine. I didn't turn the lamp off until nights stayed above 45-50ish? I think...?!?! ahha. Sorry I'm not much help.

(I think my chicks were around 6 weeks old or so...)
