Utah!

I heard from Sundance today- she is out of ICU, but only a step down from it. Still very sick, and definitely not up for phone calls or visitors. She's been really cheered up by all of the emails though. Her wifi at the hospital won't let her see our board, or my chick hatching cam. If memory serves, she has 1-2 female button quail that are adult, as well as one male.

I am so excited to buy Delarooshens cockerel from her!! I am going to girl scout camp Friday afternoon, and won't be home until late Saturday. It looks like this weekend is out anyway, so it's all good.

Cynthia, thanks for the heat tips. I swear my chickens are having a tough time with the heat already, and it's not even hot yet. I think maybe it's getting too hot too quick?

Good luck with your hatch, rlh1.

Desert, I'm also giggling over your wicked chickens and their conjugal visit.

Kimmypie, I've heard if you get a bucket of cold water, and submerge a broody up to her neck in it for 30 seconds or so, it can break her of the broodiness. It's worth a shot.

buffbard, I'm not at all convinced that's a cockerel either.

Well, I think my kindergarten hatch is about done, and my final hatch rate seems pretty abysmal. 7/19 eggs. The olive egg was halfway zipped for 24 hours, so I finally pulled it out this morning. Both of her feet were badly curled from the delayed hatch, so she has boots. She is a beautiful silver color though. She is 1/2 legbar, 1/4 fbcm and 1/4 lav am.

I left the eggs in the incubator, but I'm not holding out much hope for them. This is why I prefer my incubator. What's weird is when I was candling, they look like they're 17+ days along. I wonder what happened over the weekend to kill them off?

I candled my legbar eggs. They're technically due in a week, but it seems like my legbar eggs tend to hatch a day early. All 7 are alive and kicking!

I just heard from my parents and one of my sisters had a mini crisis come up they are going to go deal with tomorrow so they will be coming to see us next week instead... if that still works to get the boy to Lisa... let me know ..

Sounds good to me. Will double check with Sphinx and confirm for sure, I should be able to go visit her in the next few weeks. Sphinx this is the legbar male...if this works holler, I will pm you if you are not on here in the next little bit....

Edit--there ya are! we posted at the same time :)

I thought your 7 eggs that hatched were in the brinsea 7 egger. Dang to all those that did not make it! Ugh! Glad the others are looking good. I will hang on to that boy and then run it down to you when I can get away--graduation is taking over, and our 20th anniv, and our grandaughters 1st BD, and soccer playoffs and, and, and :)

Yeah...she's broody. I just checked and everyone else is roosting and she is firmly in the nest. I tried to give her some oats and she pecked me! I would love to put some eggs under her and sell the babies (since we are moving I just cannot have more chickens right now!) but wouldn't I have to separate her from the flock? We just don't have the space to do that at this point.

I have been bringing in the two chicks i got from Corvidae ever night. I mixed in two hens with week old chickes and the new ones from Corvidae with my Silkie rooster and handicap RIR . Its been total nuts for 2 days but it is slowing down. Luckily the chicks know mamas voice because mamas cant count and do not hurt anything fuzzy running around their legs, luckily for the chicks. My white

Silkie Cotton is causing the problems but its not really her fault. She was an adult when mixed into the group and really only has one friend, the rooster.

My BLRW have found a friend. Yes that's my Silkies rooster Ratchet being very patient.

ROFL Madchicken! That is so cute!!

Buffbard, I'd be willing to bet money that's a pullet, not a cockerel.

Kimmypie, I am old and senile, but if you are anywhere close to me, I'll give you some fun mixed breeds to put under her if you want to encourage it (devil's advocate).

Lisa,

I know, I'm crazy busy too. I got a new listing, and I expect it's going to go under contract really quickly, so I suspect I'll be hopping the next few days. But I'd LOVE to see you (and go to the cheese outlet...)

Sooooo far behind and I am having a hard time reading for more than a few min. at a time...so I will never catch up. I did see sundance is in the hospital, I hope someone that emails her tells her I am thinking of her and hope she gets home soon.
Everyone else I am wishing you all the best!

I candled my Wheaten Marans eggs (day 10) and out of 15 I only wonder about 2 the rest seem to be developing well....Yay!
Wish me luck I really, really want these chicks to hatch. then I can start rehoming all the hens I don't want to keep.

I am looking for a really nice Blue wheaten ameraucana rooster. the one I have doesn't seem to care about the hens (other than breeding them of course).

a good rooster will make sure the girls eat first and keep them in line and safe....This one only cares about himself.

Unless someone can think of a good (color) ameraucana rooster to mix with my wheaten hens? Open to suggestions there.

Sending you a PM..

I also got some Swedish flower hen chicks today... looks like there are some cool colors in there... hoping to get a couple more to joybells and maybe one or 2 to corvidea?? Anyone else want one or 2?? There will be 4-5 that need to be rehomed after I decide which 2 I want to keep... I would like to get $10 each for them if possible, to help cover shipping costs...

There are some legbar chicks in there, too (not for sale) but the whitish ones are swedish flowers (look to be buff mottled and blue mottled), the black one with the spot (top middle), the one on the bottom left, and the orangish one on the top right and others you can't see are all swedish flowers... they're supposed to be good layers of big cream eggs, have decent personalities (except for the one cynthia had, lol) and be good foragers...

And WOW cynthia, those brahmas are beautiful, there are some really pretty varieties out there of brahmas, that's for sure!!

Lol mad chicken that rooster IS patient!!

I think that the heat has been messing with my Icees, too. Only one of them is laying right now, but before it warmed up, all three were laying fine. I've been trying to keep them happy and refreshed to coax them to lay more. My other girls aren't having the same problem, but they can free range all day.

And I'm glad Sundance is out of ICU. Poor thing.

That's sweet. A couple of weeks ago, I let my three little teenagers out with the Icelandics, but wasn't sure how it would go. Turns out they were fine. The chicks were running right under my two roos, but the boys didn't bother them at all. They just kind of shrugged it off and went about scratching. I love good roosters.
