I heard from Sundance today- she is out of ICU, but only a step down from it. Still very sick, and definitely not up for phone calls or visitors. She's been really cheered up by all of the emails though. Her wifi at the hospital won't let her see our board, or my chick hatching cam. If memory serves, she has 1-2 female button quail that are adult, as well as one male.
I am so excited to buy Delarooshens cockerel from her!! I am going to girl scout camp Friday afternoon, and won't be home until late Saturday. It looks like this weekend is out anyway, so it's all good.
Cynthia, thanks for the heat tips. I swear my chickens are having a tough time with the heat already, and it's not even hot yet. I think maybe it's getting too hot too quick?
Good luck with your hatch, rlh1.
Desert, I'm also giggling over your wicked chickens and their conjugal visit.
Kimmypie, I've heard if you get a bucket of cold water, and submerge a broody up to her neck in it for 30 seconds or so, it can break her of the broodiness. It's worth a shot.
buffbard, I'm not at all convinced that's a cockerel either.
Well, I think my kindergarten hatch is about done, and my final hatch rate seems pretty abysmal. 7/19 eggs. The olive egg was halfway zipped for 24 hours, so I finally pulled it out this morning. Both of her feet were badly curled from the delayed hatch, so she has boots. She is a beautiful silver color though. She is 1/2 legbar, 1/4 fbcm and 1/4 lav am.
I left the eggs in the incubator, but I'm not holding out much hope for them. This is why I prefer my incubator. What's weird is when I was candling, they look like they're 17+ days along. I wonder what happened over the weekend to kill them off?
I candled my legbar eggs. They're technically due in a week, but it seems like my legbar eggs tend to hatch a day early. All 7 are alive and kicking!
