Desert, soooo sorry you lost your glw. Seems like the favorite is always the one to go, but probably because they are sweeter and don't have the best survival instincts like some of the mean ones that go on far beyond what we expect. I hope you find another sweetie amongst your newbies to love on

Do Barred Hollands look like BR? What are their unique characteristics--I had never heard of them until you posted.

I have got some new layers over the last few days, and I am finding it impossible to figure out who. They are not laying in the house with the webcam, they are laying in the little house, and they are tricking me by jumping in and out of those three nests and playing musical nests so bad I cannot figure out who is laying what. All brown or tan eggs. Kind of fun trying to catch them though

I think my NN "Alice" from Sundancen is laying. And pretty sure my 2 BR have started...and a GSL. All born end of Feb. Except the NN she is older. Will have to up my spy skills and figure out which egg belongs to who.

My all time favs are the Delaware crew.

Have six that are about 12 weeks old. I call them The Pups since they follow me everywhere and are underfoot constantly. They don't cluck, they make a low verving noise...lol LOVE THEM!!!! Lucy doesn't however... she thinks they're brats!!! Had something get a hold of one 'pup' (guineas must have been elsewhere, for a predator to get on the property), split the skin across the top of her head and all the way around down under her throat. I saw all the blood, which must have just happened, sprayed her down with antibiotic spray, pulled the wound closed, and give a simple prayer that she'd be okay.... she healed up within two days but now has the name Wreckhead.

New layers??? LOL... good luck with that one. My neighbor put different colored bands on hers, camped out in front of the hen house, to figure out who was laying.

Madchicken, I have fertile eggs, but odds are, they're all mutts. There's a good chance the FBCM egg I got yesterday is pure, but everyone else is probably half FBCM. I really haven't seen many eggs hatch fathered by the polish.

I am going to Springville/Spanish Fork today if anyone wants chicken train.

Um, he is a buck, don't think you really want a stinky buck out there peeing all over himself. lol

You either want a couple does or wethers (fixed bucks)
You need to have 2 or you will have a very loud and unhappy goat. With 2 they have each other for company.

Oh man I did not know that was how it worked lol. We just love the way he looks. He is awesome! I cannot imagine talking DH into two. I can hear him now. "that is the way it started with chickens...."

Was up all night making sure the black chicks were all sorted in the right brooders as they hatched. Hate opening the inc that much but don't want to wait 'til they feather out to tell what they are...lol. Had 3 guineas and 12 babies hatch through the night and about another dozen pipping!!

I knew she wasn't going to make it... the heat was just too much. I just hoped she could overcome it. UGH!!

Arrg it's been forever, been too hot been to buisy got a broody for the fourth, i really want to get her eggs but...i have 11 girls and don't really have room. if a hen has gone broody will she do it again? and if i got her eggs do i get chick feed again? because i can't really aford both lay mash and chick feed. i do have a way to separate her but ... but...

. yeah that's my life right now. hope you all are doing well

Remember the sparrow eggs I tried to hatch? The momma came back and laid more eggs, I left them be this time, and they hatched, on our outdoor speakers :/ Their mouths are always like this, pointed up and wide open lol
