I am thinking until my SG and silkie babies grow out, I should put the black Frizzle with my white/paint SG rooster. Wouldn't those babies be cute? And they would carry the blue egg gene. I am kind of excited to have my first fertile eggs.

So far the SG boy has only mated with the girl he was raised with, a solid black pullet that is from a FBCM dad and a Cuckoo marans mom. She lays really nice dark brown eggs like the FBCM. The eggs look to be fertile but I have not set any, I have no idea what those babies would turn out to be! She looks just like an Australorp hen, except not the dark eyes, they are a little lighter like the FBCM, she is really pretty. It might be fun to find out, but I DID make that promise not to set any more eggs until December :/

(Quick talk me out of it, I need all the reasons why this is the wrong time of year to start hatching!)

My 4 year old named her. He didn't want to change it once we realized she was definitely a she.

Glad you like that Frizz...she came from yours so I am sooooo hoping she is one of Darkness' chicks and will give me blue eggs.
Thanks on the coop! To make it even better the doghouses (we got a couple) came from KSL for 40 bucks. Cheapest coop we ever "built"

Do Barred Hollands look like BR? What are their unique characteristics--I had never heard of them until you posted.

Forgot to answer you on the Barred Holland question. Barred Hollands look like BR but they aren't as big. They have bright yellow legs and lay a huge white egg, almost daily. There is a BH thread on BYC. They have been endangered for a long time. Several people have made them a project of recovery. I thought I was getting BR. That's what the sign said. When they started laying white eggs and weren't very big, I knew they weren't BR. Took quite a bit to find out what they were.... posted on BYC.

There are a lot of problems with the project, however mine seem to be more close to the standard that they are trying to re-introduce, which is great. Mine just need a little more size, to be perfect.

And...I have a pip in one of the leghorn eggs!

Thank you I really like him! Every SG I have had has turned out to be a boy. I finally gave up! I wish now soooo bad I would have kept Maynard, the one you gave me...he was the very best one. He would have made such a good one to keep for breeding. He had the nice beard, have not hatched any bearded SG ever, they are all wattles. But Vinnie is very pretty and also pretty rare, I just could not part with him. Not yet.

Now in the last few months I have tried and tried to hatch SG females for this boy (Vinnie) I kept...right now I have 2 white show quality silkies that are teens, and if one of them ends up female I will keep her to breed with Vinnie and see if I can get some white or paint Female SG once and for all. Taking FOREVER to get my girl lol! I also have just a few that hatched half silkie half SG but they came out black and partridge and a few dirty whites, combs are all wrong, not SQ at all....they are still teeny just a few weeks old. Not sure if I will be able to use any of those if they are girls, but that is all I have to work with for now. They are probably mostly boys I see lots of big feet But really you just cannot tell until they crow so I will wait patiently and see what happens!

Either way I think I will put that black frizzle from Sundancen with the SG rooster Vinnie. No matter what the babies were I bet they would be cute Then hopefully he can have a white silkie girlfriend too.

You know Cynthia if you or Brandi hatch any more SG babies pleeeez call me! So wanting a white girl! And if you can remember where you got the eggs that hatched out Maynard let me know Love the beards!

So, today is day 19 for my broody's eggs. Well, my wonderful daughter and my adorable neighbor girl decided to go gather the eggs today. They let out my chickens (while the dogs were out) and gathered up my broody's eggs. Not sure how long they were carrying them around or how bumpy of a ride they had. I'm hoping I'll have a survivor or two. What do you think?

I was going to ask if these were bearded..they look not to be. I was thinking with them bearded..of course as you well know, you have a chance at that Bearded SG. I will have to look in my e-mail and see if by chance I saved that buy. Either from E-bay, or on BYC. I think I got the eggs from here..hmmm...going to look..I have so many old messages!
