The strange thing is, my 23 week old wheaten ameraucana boys still have not crowed. I was allowed to keep them. When the lady was counting my chickens with me she asked how many hens were in that pen (the one that looks like a house). I answered truthfully that there were seven hens. I went I. To get my shoes (she had woken me up), and when I came back she pointed out that there were nine chickens in the pen. I let her know that they were male but don't crow. She let me keep them. So, the muppets remain, too bad I never managed to get any females to match them. Imagine if you could breed crow less roosters! I am just waiting for them to break my delusions, but 23 weeks and no crow! That has got to be some kind of record. They are wheaten so there is no mistaking boy for girl and they definitely have saddle and hackle feathers...very pretty boys.

Do you have black or white bresse? French or American? According to stuff on Greenfire they are finished off on grain an milk. They are sld in the market in France with the head and feet still on. I guess to prove they are bresse. In Christmas wk they can demand $150.00 per capon.

Unfortunately, I don't have any show quality birds at the moment, so I can't enter anything.

I'm thinking about raising Old English Games. Lemon Blues and Creles spark my interest, sure they might be difficult to find though.
Brahmas are great, but it's proving a challenge to find any, and I want to continue my breeding experience.

I love the wheaten and bl wheaten roosters. They are so stunning, especially when they are young and their faces are still creamy colored. I hope they stay just as they are and stay quiet for you. Would love to see you have some you can keep!

The ones that I have right now are direct from GFF. The eggs are from GFF parent stock, but a BYC breeder.. They are the white bresse. So...descended from French bresse (imported), but outside of France you can't say they are French bresse (can't think of the terminology, but the same thing applies to wine. Champagne is not real champagne unless it is from that region of France, for example). So, to answer your question, they are American bresse, but not the mimick that was developed in California, the one that was imported from France. Clear as mud?

This reminded me of the opposite thing we came across---Sphinx and I went to a house to pick up a Cuckoo Marans roo for Blujems...it was semi-obvious girl, the guy said it had been crowing.....we told him it looked like a pullet to make sure he knew, he insisted it was a roo. It was indeed a female lol. That never happens ! He must have mistaken some chatting for some crowing.

A healthy, tame bird is a show bird. Are you sure you don't have one? If you have one that has all its feathers and might be a little shiny it has a good chance at winning at a county fair.

OEGBs, I love this breed so much, they are adorable. Roosters are quiet (from what I've owned) and hens are sooo little. This is my little hen

It is pouring down here! The lighting is close, I'm wondering if I should be on the internet...Loving it though..we need this rain. Can see that it will clear up soon.

My third baby didn't make it. It didn't pip, so I did, had a lot of yolk, and I wondered why. It was breathing fine all day as I let it sit and hang out for a while, then noticed that it wasn't absorbing the yolk. Then I noticed it had that icky greenish fluid in the bottom. Then, I saw the intestine. No wonder it wasn't absorbing the yolk. I haven't seen that in a very long time. Poor baby. And yes, it was a SG. With a bow tie.

I am waiting for the gal to write me back. I sent her these photos of the babies. I had asked her during the auction if these that had buff were white..because she had advertised white, she said yes, that they get white later on. So, I am pretty sure that the one is white, waiting to hear what color the other one is. I am not keeping the blue one, so if anyone is interested in it, let me know. Just 5 dollars. Pretty baby.
