Hey all!
Lisa: Your gals are doing so very well out here. They love scouring the wooded land for extra treats under bushes. And they are doing well with Pepper (the original chicken that I had here)
The chicks are also doing well. They are in an outdoor pen with plenty of shaving filled boxes that they love sneaking into.


Question for all:
I have had a chick since August 26th.
She is around 6 weeks old.
She was sneezing and had a runny nose so I have had her on Duramycin for about 1 week now.
Fully quarantined from the other hens and chicks.

Is there any chance she will be able to hang with the others, even if she is still sneezy?

I do not have the heart to "cull" her assuming she will make the others sick. But what if there really is nothing wrong with her?
I am so confused.

Her right eye was shut for a few days, but has since opened and is just a bit droopy lidded.

Any suggestions? Please reply to this so I can see it.

Sounds like upper respiratory. If she is still sick, keep her from the others..but..you may want to go ahead and treat the others too. Wash your hands after handling her, her food dishes, water dish..before you handle the others. Thing is, once she's had this, they are carriers. :/ I personally do not keep a sick chicken. Sad, but that's what I've decided after having to watch chicken after chicken get sick because of one.

Sad, but unfortunately true

This is something I worry about with my Icelandic flock. If they get sick with something and become carriers, I am SOL so far as breeding, I think.

All of my SLW's are sold. Brian, I can get hold of my friend up north. She has LF cochins. Maybe, I can get some eggs..you could start with babies. The best way. What was I just saying about hatching to you on fb?

If you want a full grown bird, I can ask her if she has any she wants to give up. She isn't here on BYC.

that would be great. I honestly would take an adult AND eggs if she has them. My silkie is gonna sit on a few eggs one more time this year so hopefully I can find some soon. I'm loving all my bantams and seramas, especially that little rooster. Gonna have a few big egg layers but mostly I am going to stick with the bantam feathered feet breeds.

Brian, I'd be happy to give you my Polish rooster. I've decided that's not the direction I want my breeding to go in. However, he looks very bad right now. It's two fold- one is he's molting. Second is that he keeps trying to mate hens in front of the head roo, who is much bigger and stronger than him, and he's getting his butt kicked because of it.


Hey, as a heads up, when I went to the BYC site this morning, my virus blocker went NUTS. I think there may be an infection in this site, so make sure you do a good virus scan.

how loud of a crow does he have? I'm not allowed rooster although I do have a little serama roostet but you can't really even hear him.

Sphinx, thanks for the heads up. I'll be running a virus scan soon.....

My chickens kept escaping from the run and preserve, and as a result, my egg numbers have gone up. I'm now getting 3-5 a day instead or 0 or 1, yay! My Wyandotte sisters are having a competition, it seems. Granted, very few of these eggs are actually being laid in the coop, but I'll take what I can get.
